The Cleveland Cavaliers are still picking up the pieces of LeBron James’ departure. Since he left in 2018, the team has been just flat-out awful, posting some of the East’s worst records.

But as they watch things play out in the Orlando bubble, they are considering a number of options to change the direction of their team, including the acquisition of Sixers star Ben Simmons.

According to Chris Fedor of cleveland.com, the Cavaliers believe they can create an “enticing” trade package for Simmons this offseason.

“But the Cavs believe they have enough to assemble an enticing package, especially with recent first-rounders littering the roster, a top six pick coming in October and a future first from the Milwaukee Bucks.

“Those picks, combined with one of the young guys and some salary filler, is a good start. It’s also why the Cavs have spent the first few years of the post-LeBron era stockpiling assets. In any potential trade discussion, the Cavs would cling tightest to Kevin Porter Jr.”

As one of the brightest young players in the NBA, the addition of Simmons would be huge for Cleveland. In three seasons, he ha posted career averages of 16.4 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 8 assists per game on 56% shooting. But is he a realistic get for them?

It’s clear from Fedor’s report that the Cavs have been gearing up for a big move for years now. With multiple picks, young players, and Andre Drummond, they certainly have the pieces to make an intriguing package.

Whether or not it will be enough to bring in a guy like Simmons, though, remains to be seen.
