There is no doubt that Portland Trail Blazers guard Anfernee Simons is one of the brightest young talents in the league. He is a solid scoring guard, who looks like he can be the point guard of the future for the team.

Despite his talent, it seems as though the Portland Trail Blazers may end up parting ways with Anfernee Simons. A recent report from John Hollinger of The Athletic revealed that there is already league speculation that the team could package Simons and the No. 3 pick for an elite small forward.

“Note that I said “the team at No. 3” because of widespread speculation the Trail Blazers, who currently own the pick, will seek to trade out of the third position rather than select another young player. With Portland in “win it for Dame” mode and the Blazers desperate for playable wings (even presuming they re-sign Jerami Grant), speculation is already widespread that a package of the third pick and Anfernee Simons might be used to snag an elite small forward.”

It will be interesting to see what forwards the Portland Trail Blazers will end up targeting in the future. They were notably interested in OG Anunoby at last year’s draft, and perhaps they could pursue him once again.

Anfernee Simons averaged 21.1 PPG, 2.6 RPG, and 4.1 APG for the Portland Trail Blazers this season. They shouldn’t trade him unless it is for a star-level player, though it is clear that they are considering all options.

The Portland Trail Blazers Are Also Interested In Deandre Ayton

Aside from their potential interest in packaging Simons and No. 3 for an elite small forward, it seems as though the Portland Trail Blazers might have some interest in acquiring center Deandre Ayton from the Phoenix Suns.

“Multiple sources have confirmed Portland has an interest in Deandre Ayton & could be willing to discuss a deal centered around the 3rd overall pick and additional pieces. Scoot Henderson & Brandon Miller are both considered to be foundational players in this upcoming NBA Draft.”

“I was told Portland would require other pieces for a deal like this to be something they’d be willing to discuss… They’re shopping 3rd pick & have had an interest in Ayton since last summer!”

It will definitely be interesting to see what course of action the Portland Trail Blazers end up taking. They definitely have many options on the table, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
