The Los Angeles Lakers were expected to be a very active team ahead of the 2023 NBA trade deadline. The Purple and Gold started this season with a lot of questions and just a couple of answers, but things appear to be clearer now.

What appeared to be a normal day became a great one for Lakers Nation, as the team traded for disgruntled Washington Wizards star Rui Hachimura, sending Kendrick Nunn and a couple of second-rounders to D.C.

The trade deadline is approaching, and this might not be the last move the Lakers make before February 9. Recent reports suggest that they are interested in other stars, and while fans think they should have gone for Kyle Kuzma or Jordan Clarkson, they have apparently set their sights on different pieces.

Lakers And Spurs Still Talking About A Potential Trade Involving Russell Westbrook

According to LJ Ellis of Spurs Talk, the Los Angeles Lakers and the San Antonio Spurs are still discussing the possibility of a trade involving Russell Westbrook. The Lakers are interested in Josh Richardson and Doug McDermott.

Interestingly, a team insider says that talks between the Spurs and the Los Angeles Lakers that involve Russell Westbrook are still alive. Those talks have been on the back burner for a couple months but I’ve been told that both the Lakers and Spurs remain open to the possibility depending on how the next two weeks play out prior to the trade deadline.

In addition to Poeltl, the Lakers are said to be interested in Josh Richardson and Doug McDermott.

Ellis clarifies that the Spurs aren’t pushing to move Richardson or McDermott since they have the highest regard for these two players.

Speaking of Richardson and McDermott, the Spurs aren’t in a hurry to deal either player. San Antonio values the veteran leadership both players provide to the team.

The Spurs are one of the worst teams in the NBA this season, and some of their veterans are followed by many teams around the association. It’s unclear if this move would benefit them, knowing that Westbrook isn’t the type of player who plays to lose. Still, this could be a good move for the Lakers, but it remains to be seen if they work their magic again and convince the Spurs of pulling the trigger.
