NBA Rumors: Spurs Could Trade 2020 Lottery Pick For Kevin Love And Collin Sexton

2 Min Read

The San Antonio Spurs have failed to make the postseason for the first time in 20 years. Despite having DeMar, LaMarcus, and legendary head coach Gregg Popovich, their roster just doesn’t have enough to win consistently in this long-distance shooting era.

As the world screams “rebuild” for the aging Spurs, there may be another option if they feel that they are still within reach of contention: the NBA Draft lottery.

The Spurs have a 2% chance of getting that no.1 overall pick and if they win, it could lead to a trade. Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report recently illustrated one scenario that involves Cleveland’s Kevin Love and Collin Sexton.

The Trade: 2020 No. 1 overall pick, PF Rudy Gay, PG Patty Mills, F Keldon Johnson to Cleveland Cavaliers for PF Kevin Love and G Collin Sexton

Kevin Love, a five-time All-Star, and Collin Sexton, a 20-points-per-game scorer, would spark a starting lineup that could also include LaMarcus Aldridge, Dejounte Murray and DeMar DeRozan if DeRozan picks up his player option or signs a new deal.

For the Cavs, they get some more vets to mentor the young guys and a few more young pieces to add to their rebuild.

LaMelo Ball or Anthony Edwards would make more sense for the Cleveland Cavaliers with Sexton gone, and either would join 2019 No. 5 pick Darius Garland in a revamped backcourt. The Cavs would save significant future money by swapping Love’s contract for the expiring deals of Rudy Gay and Patty Mills, and Keldon Johnson would provide wing depth.

As for potential prospects, LaMelo Ball, Anthony Edwards, and James Wiseman are all projected to be among the top three picks this year and each can really change the trajectory of the NBA.

The Spurs are hoping to get lucky tonight, but anything can happen.
