NBA Trade Rumors: Warriors Could Send Andrew Wiggins And Picks To Spurs For DeMar DeRozan

2 Min Read

The Golden State Warriors are angling for a title in spite of the injury to their star, Klay Thompson. After trading for Kelly OUbre Jr. and signing Kent Bazemore, the Dubs have already taken some important steps in trying to make up for their most recent loss.

But bringing in 4x All-Star DeMar DeRozan would even further solidify their quest for a title — and the Warriors have more than enough assets to get a deal done.

In a trade proposal by Evan Massey of NBA Analysis Network, they could include Andrew Wiggins and several first-round picks to pull it off.

“Andrew Wiggins could help, but DeMar DeRozan would be able to come in and immediately provide more consistent offensive firepower. Not to mention, in addition to DeRozan’s scoring ability, he only has one year left on his contract. Moving on from Wiggins’ bad contract would help the Warriors look to make moves next offseason. Rumors have connected them to pursuing Giannis Antetokounmpo if he tests free agency. If the Warriors were to acquire DeRozan, they would trot out a very dangerous starting lineup. Stephen Curry, DeRozan, Kelly Oubre, Draymond Green, and James Wiseman would be very competitive.”

The Spurs don’t tend to send their stars packing for cheap (just look at the return they got for Kawhi), but Andrew Wiggins might just be enough to get the talks started. The 25-year-old scoring star is a good face to have amid a major rebuild, and the two first-round picks certainly help add to the appeal.

In exchange, the Warriors get some backup for the immediate future without having to give up cap flexibility. They remain competitive while keeping their options open.

No matter how you feel about DeRozan or the Warriors, it’s certainly a deal that would vault them back to the top of title contention this campaign.
