Corey Kispert got the scare of his life thanks to Steven Adams in Monday’s game between the Washington Wizards and the Houston Rockets at Toyota Center. Kispert held on to the ball after committing an offensive foul in the third quarter but immediately gave it up when he saw Adams running at him.

To be fair to Kispert, most NBA players would have been scared in that situation. Adams might well be the strongest player in the league and his running at you is quite a scary sight.

In a game against the San Antonio Spurs earlier this season on Oct. 28, Adams showed off his strength by easily lifting Keldon Johnson off the ground. In that same game, Victor Wembanyama also hilariously failed to box out Adams, as the latter pushed the former aside with ease. That’s an incredibly strong man and one you do not want to mess with.

Fortunately, Adams is very much a gentle giant. The New Zealander was just messing around with Kispert here and was all smiles afterward.

Adams was smiling after this game too, as the Rockets beat the Wizards 107-92 to improve to 7-4 in the 2024-25 season. The 31-year-old big man recorded two points, seven rebounds (three offensive), and one assist off the bench on the night and has been a solid backup option for his new team.

Adams is still not quite at his best, though, following that long spell on the sidelines. He missed the second half of the 2022-23 season and then the whole of the 2023-24 season with a PCL injury.

A calf strain then caused Adams to miss the start of this campaign and he hasn’t gotten completely up to speed just yet. The Rockets are being quite cautious with him too, as they didn’t let him play against the Detroit Pistons prior to this game against the Wizards, as it was a back-to-back.

Adams should, though, suit up for the Rockets’ next game against the Los Angeles Clippers at Toyota Center on Wednesday at 8 PM ET. They go into that game on a two-game winning streak and would be keen on making three in a row.

Getting back to Kispert, he had 12 points, one rebound, one assist, and three steals against the Rockets as the Wizards dropped to 2-7 on the season. It was their fifth straight loss and another disappointing campaign is on the cards for the team. They take on the San Antonio Spurs next at Frost Bank Center on Wednesday at 8 PM ET.
