Austin Reaves spoke after the Los Angeles Lakers‘ 113-109 victory over the New York Knicks. When speaking about the impact Luka Doncic has had on their team, Austin Reaves lauded the Slovenian star for his killer mentality and how that helps motivate the entire team to step up their game and win at all costs. He also added that the Lakers will only get better with Doncic growing into his role.
“The one thing that everyone knows about Luka is that he’s a killer. At the end of the day, he wants to go win. I’ve been able to watch him for a long time in this league. That was one thing, but I was really excited about teaming up with him because, at all costs, he wants to go out there and win.”
When you put a guy like that on your team, and everybody knows how skilled he is, he makes the game easier for everybody else. It’s very good to have on your team. I feel like he has fit in perfectly. Very happy to have him and can’t wait to grow… put it all together and see what that looks like.”
Luka had a brilliant game last night, putting up 32 points (9-23 FG), seven rebounds, 12 assists, and four steals to help the Lakers win their eighth consecutive game against the New York Knicks. It was a great showing from the superstar who looks better and better with every passing game he plays in the purple and gold.
Doncic may have been surprised about getting traded to the Los Angeles Lakers, but he has settled into a groove with the team over the last few weeks. It appears he and LeBron James have formed a dangerous partnership that could dominate the NBA come playoff time and even lead the Lakers to their 18th NBA championship.
Luka Doncic Could Win A Chip In Year One
Luka Doncic may have arrived in Los Angeles in February, but he could put an end to a turbulent 2024-25 NBA season as an NBA champion, redeeming a heartbreaking NBA Finals loss from the previous year. While I’m sure Luka thought he would be back in the NBA Finals this year, he definitely wouldn’t have expected to be doing so with the Los Angeles Lakers.
Doncic and the Lakers have become an incredible team over the last two months, putting up a 20-4 record since mid-January. During that stretch, they have the best defense in the NBA and the ninth-best offense in the league. The team is clicking in a way that they really haven’t all year.
Usually, for any team in the NBA to compete for a championship, they need to be a top-10 team both offensively and defensively. And the Lakers are doing that right now. Fans of the Lakers have to hope that JJ Redick can keep the team playing at this same level for the remainder of the season and the playoffs.
