The Twitter war between LeBron James and Doug Gottlieb has escalated to new heights, with both sides exchanging shots over Bronny James‘ NBA selection, Gottlieb’s struggling coaching tenure, and LeBron’s apparent “pettiness.”

Gottlieb quickly responded on Fox Sports Radio and then took a jab at LeBron’s priorities, questioning why a multi-millionaire basketball icon was spending his day off trolling a college coach with a 3-24 record.

“This is not high school, middle school, AAU. It’s not even college. It’s the NBA. It’s the Lakers. And if you’re not comfortable with that, then maybe don’t force into the NBA. But I have no response for a dude on a day off, who’s got millions of dollars, sitting in L.A. tweeting at me.”

Months ago, Gottlieb, a sports analyst-turned-head coach at Wisconsin-Green Bay, publicly criticized the Los Angeles Lakers’ decision to draft Bronny James. He infamously compared the move to treating Bronny like a “Make-A-Wish kid,” arguing that the younger James didn’t belong in the NBA and was only there because of his father’s influence.

Gottlieb doubled down on his stance, claiming that Bronny wouldn’t even start for his own Green Bay team, which is a struggling Division I program in the Horizon League.

LeBron, who has spent over two decades shrugging off media criticism, clearly took this attack personally. And when Green Bay finally snapped a brutal 21-game losing streak, finishing at a disastrous 3-24 record, the Lakers star didn’t hold back.

He took to social media, responding to a College Basketball Report post about Green Bay’s struggles with a string of laughing and poop emojis. It was as clear of a shot as one could take, essentially mocking Gottlieb’s coaching failures after months of taking shots at Bronny.

The Green Bay coach also accused LeBron of “punching down,” suggesting that it’s unbecoming for one of the greatest basketball players of all time to be wasting his energy on a small-time college coach.

The exchange raises a key question: Why was Gottlieb the one getting LeBron’s wrath when so many other analysts have said the same thing about Bronny?

It could be that LeBron simply had time on his hands, or perhaps he was looking for a distraction after facing backlash for skipping the All-Star Game. Either way, it’s clear that LeBron took particular offense to Gottlieb’s words, and when the opportunity arose, he made sure to fire back in a way that only he could.

Regardless of who’s right, one thing is certain—this feud isn’t going away anytime soon. Gottlieb has made a career out of being outspoken, and LeBron isn’t one to let shots at his family slide. The next move? That’s up to them.
