LeBron James has made it no secret that he wanted to play alongside his eldest son, Bronny James, before his legendary NBA career comes to an end. However, according to former teammate Dwight Howard, the four-time champion might have an even bigger plan in mind—bringing his younger son, Bryce James, to the Los Angeles Lakers as well.
“I asked LeBron. He said he wanted Bronny and he said he’s trying to get Bryce.”
“The last time I told LeBron he said, listen I’m trying to get Bronny and Bryce to be on the Lakers and I’m trying to get Savannah to be– he’s going to be the owner of the team so it’s a family affair, the whole James family.”
During his recent appearance on Podcast P with Paul George, Howard shared what LeBron allegedly told him about his long-term vision for his basketball career and the Lakers franchise.
While Howard’s remarks about LeBron’s aspirations were partly tongue-in-cheek, the possibility of the Lakers adding Bryce in the future isn’t as far-fetched as it might seem. Bryce, currently a senior at Sierra Canyon High School, has committed to playing at Arizona, but he isn’t considered a top-tier NBA prospect just yet.
As a three-star recruit, he may not be a one-and-done player like some of the other elite high school prospects. If Bryce chooses to stay in college for multiple seasons, LeBron could potentially wait it out and remain in the league long enough to suit up with both of his sons in the purple and gold.
This scenario would mean LeBron might have to extend his career by at least two more years, depending on how quickly Bryce develops and makes the jump to the NBA.
Given LeBron’s remarkable longevity, it wouldn’t be surprising if he maintained an elite level of play into his early 40s, much like Tom Brady did in the NFL.
The Lakers could also find a way to acquire Bryce as an undrafted free agent if he doesn’t enter the league as a high draft pick, further strengthening the likelihood of this father-and-sons reunion in Los Angeles.
LeBron has already begun the process of mentoring Bronny at the NBA level. While Bronny hasn’t cracked the Lakers’ regular rotation yet, he has shown flashes of potential in the G League.
If LeBron remains committed to the idea of playing alongside his son, he may continue to help guide Bronny’s development until he’s ready for a more prominent role. Adding Bryce to the mix would only add to the James family’s growing legacy in professional basketball.
While LeBron’s future in the NBA remains a major talking point, his latest rumored goal of playing with both Bronny and Bryce could redefine his already historic career.
If the Lakers are willing to make it happen, basketball fans might witness an unprecedented family dynasty unfold in Los Angeles.
