The Los Angeles Lakers snapped the Denver Nuggets‘ nine-game winning streak in style with a dominant 123-100 win at Ball Arena on Saturday. The Lakers had Luka Doncic and LeBron James to thank for the victory, as the two put on a show in Denver.
Doncic had his best game as a Laker in this one, finishing with 32 points (10-22 FG), 10 rebounds, seven assists, four steals, and one block. James, meanwhile, put up 25 points (11-19 FG), nine rebounds, five assists, one steal, and three blocks. The two superstars got plenty of help too, with Austin Reaves recording 23 points (7-13 FG), four rebounds, and seven assists, and Rui Hachimura putting up 21 points (7-12 FG), four assists, and one steal.
Lakers fans were understandably over the moon following this statement win over a Nuggets team that has been their nemesis in recent years.
“The Nuggets don’t own us anymore man omfg. Luka, you saved my f***in life bro,” one Lakers fan thanked Doncic for ending the Nuggets’ dominance over them.
“That was the most impressive performance of our season man. To contain Joker without a center was an incredible effort from the guys. We literally smothered him. JJ is working hard with this Roster, it’s visible to see. The Bron-Luka era officially starts here,” one fan thought this was the Lakers’ best performance in 2024-25.
“Lakers were a far better-coached team today than the Nuggets. JJ ran absolute circles around Malone. Think about what that means. Go back to our previous matchups vs this team. If we flip the coaching matchup, the Lakers are dog-walking this team,” one fan praised JJ Redick for outcoaching Michael Malone.
“Best team in the league. Proud of y’all,” one fan boldly claimed the Lakers are now the best team in the NBA.
“This team has the potential to win it all, tonight showed. Let’s keep this s*** going,” one fan reckons this Lakers squad has what it takes to win the title.
It’s too early for title talk with this Lakers team but there is no denying this was an incredible performance. They dominated in every facet of the game against a Nuggets team that has had their number.
The Lakers shot 50% from the field and dominated inside, with a 52-30 edge in points in the paint. They also played some exceptional defense, limiting the Nuggets to just 40% shooting from the field. The Lakers also forced 22 turnovers and earned 39 points off those miscues.
A bulk of those turnovers were committed by Nikola Jokic (six), who put in one of his worst performances of the season. Jokic finished with just 12 points (2-7 FG), 13 rebounds, 10 assists, and a steal on the night, as he struggled against the Lakers’ defense.
The Lakers kept throwing multiple bodies at Jokic to frustrate him and it was an incredible team effort. The reigning MVP was supposed to dominate here in the absence of Anthony Davis but instead was clamped down.
The Nuggets dropped to 37-20 on the season with the loss here and will look to bounce back when they take on the Indiana Pacers at Gainbridge Fieldhouse on Monday at 7 PM ET.
The Lakers, meanwhile, improved to 34-21 and will hope to make it three wins in a row when they take on the Dallas Mavericks at Crypto.com Arena on Tuesday at 10 PM ET. The fact that Doncic played this well against the Nuggets doesn’t bode well for the Mavericks, as he is going to have a point to prove to his former team.
