LeBron James turned 40 today, becoming the only active 40-year-old in the NBA. The league’s all-time leading scorer is one of the most historic players in the NBA’s history, and his 40th brought out former teammates and coaches who shared heartfelt wishes with the Los Angeles Lakers forward.
Kevin Love: “LeBron, happy 40th birthday. As we said in the group chat, you are annoying and full of yourself, but we love you anyway and accept you for who you are. On a real note, I love you, and appreciate you. We’ve had a lot of great moments together, especially 2016. A lot of people have watched you since you were a youngster. I am happy to know you and your family.”
Chauncey Billups: “I want to wish you a happy 40th birthday. I can’t even believe I’m saying that. I remember your first preseason game coming to the Palace at 18 years old, 22 years ago, playing against you, and to see you still dominating the game man. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to have been a part of that. I’m proud of you and happy for you. It’s all love man, go enjoy it oldhead.”
Kyle Korver: “40 is a good number. People are scared of it but you don’t have to be. Let your hair grow, maybe your beard. I think first, I need to congratulate you for passing me on the three-point shooting list. That’s messed up because you’re not the shooter, you’re the guy who passes to the shooters. You’re trying to take everything right now and that’s selfish of you. But all that aside man, congratulations on 40. What else can I say? It’s been an amazing run and good things happen at the end, so do it all, take it all, you deserve it, you’re the best.”
Mile Brown: “LeBron, happy 40th man. I appreciate everything you’ve done for me and my family, but more importantly for this great league, and everybody else starting with Akron, Ohio. Much love to you and your family.”
Steve Kerr: “LeBron, happy 40th. Man, what a joy it was to coach you this summer. It was way better than trying to coach against you, I can tell you that. What a career you’ve had, what a life you’ve built, it’s been amazing to witness it and be a small part of it this summer.”

You can love or hate LeBron, but his impact on the league is undeniable. The older he gets, the more flowers he receives for continuing to be active in the league and playing at the level that he does.
He’s averaging 23.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 9.0 assists this season, playing an integral part in the Lakers being the No. 5 seed in the West with an 18-13 record.
LeBron will also crack another historic milestone when he plays in his next game, becoming the first NBA player to have made his debut as a teenager and also playing in his 40s. James’ first game after this age milestone is funnily enough against the Cleveland Cavaliers, the team he made his NBA debut with.
