LeBron James surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar to become the NBA’s all-time leader in regular season minutes played last night during the Los Angeles Lakers‘ 113-100 win over the Sacramento Kings. After the game, James had a poignant, yet hilarious take on adding yet another historic accolade to his resume, reflecting on his long career in the NBA.

“Coach came in and congratulated me. My teammates said ‘F**k off’. They told me I was old as hell. It’s a pretty cool honor. Obviously, any time I’m linked with some of the greats that played this game, to know I’ve been available to my teammates.”

“I’ve been able to do this at a high level for two decades and continue to put myself in the record books of this game of basketball that I love so much, in the best league in the world is pretty cool. Very humbling…”

James now sits on top of the NBA with 57,470 minutes played in the NBA. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, the previous leader prior to tonight’s game, had played 57,446 minutes. You can find the top 10 leaders in minutes played in the regular season below.

1. LeBron James – 57,470 minutes

2. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar – 57,446 minutes

3. Karl Malone – 54,852 minutes

4. Dirk Nowitzki – 51,368 minutes

5. Kevin Garnett – 50,418 minutes

6. Jason Kidd – 50,111 minutes

7. Elvin Hayes – 50,000 minutes

8. Kobe Bryant – 48,637 minutes

9. Wilt Chamberlain – 47,859 minutes

10. John Stockton – 47,764 minutes

This is yet another achievement that LeBron James has under his belt. This isn’t even the first time James has surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in an all-time leaders list. During the 2022-23 NBA season, LeBron James eclipsed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record for the most points scored in NBA history. James is the current undisputed leader, with 41,040 points scored.

James Can’t Stop Making History

James has been making history for the last few years in a way that hasn’t been seen in the NBA for over four decades. Having played in the league for 22 years now, James has consistently been one of the best players in the NBA and has used every opportunity available to him to show out and deliver strong performances.

He also achieved another career feat last night, as he reached 10,000 points with the Los Angeles Lakers. He is one of only 13 players in the franchise’s history to score 10,000+ points while playing on the team.

James leads the NBA all-time in most points, most playoff points, most regular season minutes, most playoff minutes, most playoff games of all time, most playoff wins of all time, most shots attempted all time, most All-Star nominations, and most All-NBA nominations.

That is an astonishing amount of categories for any player to be leading an entire league in. On top of that, James is second all-time in most shots made, and fourth all-time in most wins in an NBA career. At the rate at which he is going, it would not be surprising to see him surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who is the leader in both categories, before the end of his career.
