Bobby Portis spoke on the ‘Run It Back’ show about the Milwaukee Bucks‘ season so far. He noted that the Bucks are looking forward to their showdowns against the Los Angeles Lakers in March. Portis added that the Bucks will be motivated to win against the Lakers for their assistant coach Darvin Ham, who was previously the head coach of the Lakers before he got fired this summer.

“It’s going to be a fun game to play. We played them two times last year… It’s always a fun game to play in. Our games last year actually went down to the wire. We lost both games by under five points…”

“Obviously, for Coach Ham, it’s a big moment for him. Our guys will be fired up for him to go out there and get the W. On the other side, they’ll be fired up and not want their [former] coach to beat them. It’ll be a great game for TV, hopefully, that game is live nationally. I think there’s a great storyline behind it.”

Clearly, Portis and the Bucks back their assistant coach, and want him to get the last laugh on his former team. Recently, Darvin Ham played a big role in the Milwaukee Bucks’ NBA Cup win. After winning the cup, Ham actually made sure they didn’t celebrate heavily, learning from his mistake after winning the inaugural NBA Cup with the Lakers.

After the win, Ham took shots at the Lakers, flaming them for firing him despite him being successful in his stint as head coach. Former Lakers star J.R. Smith echoed these sentiments, claiming that the Lakers scapegoated him and didn’t give him a strong roster to be able to compete at a high level.

Portis has also been taking shots at the Lakers recently, calling them the ‘Hollywood’ team when comparing the Bucks’ NBA Cup win to their win.

Darvin Ham Looking For Revenge

Coming into the season, Doc Rivers defended Darvin Ham after he got fired by the Lakers, questioning how a coach could be fired just one year after taking a team to the Western Conference Finals. Ham is clearly supported by the members of the Bucks’ organization.

The truth of the matter is that Darvin Ham, for all his strengths, was out of his depth as head coach of the Lakers. His lack of in-game management, combined with his constant meddling and changing the starting lineup really caused problems for the Lakers, and it is a big reason why they struggled last season.

Ham has every right to feel aggrieved by his termination. Especially when one looks at his replacement, JJ Redick, who hasn’t gotten off to a better start this season. But the Lakers seem happier with Redick, who is a more Xs-and-Os-oriented coach who can read the game in a much better way.

The Lakers’ game against the Bucks will be a must-watch fixture, but fans will have to wait for a while, as the two teams don’t face off till March. Their first encounter is on March 13th at 7:30 PM EST at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee. Then, just days later, the Bucks will travel to LA to face the Lakers at the Crypto.com Arena in a rematch.
