The New Orleans Pelicans put out a medical update for their injury-ridden roster. In the update, it was revealed that Zion Williamson is on the mend, as he resumes full practice next week, and will be week-to-week going forward. The Pelicans’ medical staff will be evaluating his condition at these practices before he returns to the court.

Zion Williamson has been out with a left hamstring strain since November 6th. It was disappointing to see Williamson get injured almost immediately after making his return to the court. He only played six games to start the season before going down with another injury.

In the six games that Williamson has played, he has averaged 22.7 points, 8.0 rebounds, 5.3 assists, 0.7 steals, and 1.2 blocks per game while shooting 45.7% from the field, 33.3% from range, and 66.7% from the free-throw line.

Williamson making a return to the court might not matter in the long run. Earlier today, it was reported by The Athletic’s Jovan Buha that the Pelicans have been shopping Zion Williamson, along with Brandon Ingram and CJ McCollum, in the hopes that they can land some solid offers for them and begin a proper rebuild.

Considering Williamson has been one of the most disappointing performers in the NBA since his arrival since he is rarely available and the Pelicans will want to get rid of him because of that. On top of that, he signed a five-year, $197 million contract last year that runs till 2027. With him making almost $40 million a season, he is not even close to being worth the amount of money they’re paying him.

What’s Next For Zion Williamson?

If the Pelicans are ready to move on from Zion Williamson, what can we expect from the move? Well, first of all, the Pelicans should get ready to accept a low offer for him in any trade, as his value has dropped significantly over the last few years, and they will not get the kind of compensation they would have hoped for a few years ago.

We tried to map out what every NBA team’s best offer for Zion Williamson, which you can check out here. We also pitched a risky trade for the Chicago Bulls where they go all-in for Zion Williamson in a do-or-die move.

The Pelicans are staring down the barrel of a firesale, where they get rid of all players except three that they have earmarked as being untouchable. If a firesale does end up occurring, we created a blueprint for how that might end up going, with pitches for all their star players, including Zion, joining different teams.

Will Williamson be traded before the trade deadline? There are a lot of variables at play, and the Pelicans might not be ready to accept a lower offer for Williamson. But at this rate, it might be the best course of action for both sides, as Zion isn’t getting healthier, and the Pelicans are drowning in an ocean of mediocrity.
