Nick Young went hard at French forward and recent 76ers‘ signee Guerschon Yabusele on X. Posting during the Warriors 139-105 thrashing of the 76ers, Young claimed that Philly deserved to be losing because they signed the Olympic silver medalist, whom he compared to former NBA star Eddy Curry, who was a famous NBA bust. Swaggy P also joked that Yabusele looked like the 76ers found him outside a liquor store.

“Philly deserves to lose for picking up this big Eddy Curry-looking, France n****… For sure found him in front of a liquor store… First team brown bag.”

Firstly, to compare Yabusele to a player like Eddy Curry, who technically has won an NBA championship is accidentally heaping praise on him, especially considering that Young also won an NBA championship as a role player on the Golden State Warriors.

But to go after Yabusele feels a little unfair. The 76ers have been awful as an entire team this season. Even though they had shown signs of improvement before their destruction at the hands of the Warriors, having won five of their last six games, the 76ers had started the season very poorly and dug themselves into the hole they find themselves in now.

Yabusele, who was signed by the 76ers after his impressive performance at the 2024 Paris Olympis for France, including a dunk on LeBron James in the gold medal game, hasn’t made a big impact on the franchise.

However, last night’s game was a particularly strong one for the Olympic silver medalist, as he put up 13 points (4-6 FG), six rebounds, and two assists. While the 76ers lost last night, the blame shouldn’t fall squarely on his shoulders.

But this season hasn’t been a standout one for Yabusele. He has averaged 9.8 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 0.7 steals, and 0.4 blocks while shooting 50.7% from the field, 39.5% from the three-point line, and 67.8% from the free-throw line.

The fact that he has done this while averaging just 24.1 minutes per game is really impressive. He is very much playing up to the $2.4 million contract he signed with the team.

This could just be another case of Young trying to gain some traction on social media by taking shots at other players. He’s been known to do this from time to time, most recently doing so when D’Angelo Russell, a player he has a long history with, got traded to the Nets. Young sent him a harsh message, telling him to never come back to Los Angeles ever again as he isn’t welcome.

Regardless of what you think of his antics, there is no way to justify Young’s bizarre comments last night. It was extremely disrespectful, especially considering Nick Young tried and failed to make a comeback to the NBA in the latter years of the 2010s.

Yabusele, unlike Young, was actually able to make a return to the league after his first stint with the Celtics didn’t work out. Perhaps Swaggy P’s comments were laced with a little bit of jealousy after seeing the French star do something he wasn’t able to.
