Kevin Durant‘s time with the Phoenix Suns may have come to an unceremonious end tonight. During the Suns’ game against the Houston Rockets, Durant seemingly rolled his ankle while being guarded by Jabari Smith and immediately fell to the floor. The Suns helped him up and walked him back to the locker room. There is no word on if he will return to the game tonight.

Upon taking a closer look at the injury, it does look to be a very awkward landing for KD. It’s hard to say what the extent of the injury is, but given the way he landed and his extensive injury history, it might be a safe bet to assume that Durant will be out for some time with whatever injury he sustained.

Durant was listed as out for the rest of the game. Given that the Suns are currently being blown out by the Rockets, there is no reason to risk him returning to the game and further aggravating his injury. It might be best for the Suns to take the All-Star to the hospital and get started on running the tests early.

Could Durant return before the season is over to help the Suns make a push for the play-in tournament? Sure, but given where the Suns are right now, sitting 11th in the Western Conference with a 35-39 record and will only earn the 10th seed or 9th seed at best, the Suns might not want to risk Kevin considering they are aware they can’t make a championship push.

The Suns also want to preserve Durant’s health as it significantly impacts his trade value. They are ready to move him on in the offseason, and an injury would significantly impact the trade package they could get for him. It’s best not to take that risk for the Suns.
