Washington Wizards guard Jordan Poole might be on the worst team in the NBA but has found ways to keep himself satisfied on and off the court. On the court, he’s in the midst of his best production season of his career while off the court, he has fuzzy friends keeping him company.
Poole revealed his fondness for cats in an interview with the Washington Post. The guard also revealed that there are plenty of cat lovers in the NBA, joking about it being a secret society which also includes the likes of former championship teammate Stephen Curry.
“I may or may not have convinced [Steph Curry] to get a cat… It’s sort of a cool community. Like a cool cat community. We just kind of keep it in-house. You’ve got to knock a couple of times for us to let you in. Secret code.”
“A lot of guys are dog people, but just the energy [and] the way I talk about them, the pictures and videos and stuff that I show them, it just gives them a little bit more interest. So I give them a different perspective. Maybe they’re not as much maintenance, but they’re still a really dope companion and friend to have. You don’t have to really take them out three or four times a day. You can still get your rest. Normally [my peers] like to explore it. I’ve had a lot of friends and teammates who are also cat people.”
Poole and Curry aren’t the only cat-dads in the NBA, with Indiana Pacers big-man duo Myles Turner and James Wiseman also being part of the club, alongside Miami Heat rookie Kel’el Ware and Utah Jazz sophomore Keyonte George.
Poole’s influence led to Wizards youngster Tristan Vukcevic adopting a cat himself, with the executive director of Lost Dog & Cat Rescue Foundation saying that Poole basically made Vukcevic adopt a cat.
While the on-the-go lifestyle of an NBA player doesn’t give them an ideal situation to be a pet owner, many of them ensure they have fuzzy companions at home to try and maximize time spent with them.
