Nikola Jokic led the Denver Nuggets to the 2023 NBA championship and was crowned Finals MVP as well, but the only thing on his mind after all of it was to go home.
Jokic was disappointed when he found out their trophy parade was on Thursday because he said he needed to go home. He later joked that he’d ask the Nuggets owner for a plane to get to Serbia on time for his horse racing on Sunday. He is certainly becoming one of the more likable characters around and further endeared himself to the average person with a classic quote on his job.
“Nobody likes his job. Or maybe they do. They’re lying.”

Jokic is pretty incredible when it comes to basketball, with averages of 30.0 PPG, 13.5 RPG, 9.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, and 1.0 BPG in these playoffs, but at the end of the day, it is a job for him. He’d much rather be at home with his family and his horses than on the court.
He stated before the Finals that basketball isn’t the main thing in his life, and it probably never will be. It is his family and his daughter, in particular, who are most important to him and you have to respect that.
For many superstars of the past, like Kobe Bryant and Michael Jordan, basketball was everything, but Jokic just isn’t like them. He has his own different perspective toward the sport and it certainly isn’t hurting his game in any way.
Nikola Jokic Shared A Powerful Message After Winning The Title
While Jokic and the Nuggets were absolutely dominant in these playoffs, they had to go through a lot to get to this point. There were some setbacks, disappointments, and heartbreaks along the way, and after winning it all, Jokic put out a powerful message.
“If you want to be successful, you need to be bad, then you need to be good. Then when you’re good, you need to fail. Then when you fail, you’re going to figure it out… There are no shortcuts. It’s a journey.”
The Nuggets weren’t always this good, of course. They failed to make the playoffs in his first three seasons and the following four saw heartbreak in the postseason. Injuries kept holding them back, but they were finally able to put it all together this season.
