The Denver Nuggets are on a roll, winning their last eight games in a row, and much of it has to do with Nikola Jokic’s impressive run.

While at it, he achieved a new milestone in the team’s 122-118 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves. Jokic’s 13 assists saw him surpass Hall of Famer Alex English to become the franchise leader in assists.

Jokic registered his 3,680th career assist in the third quarter on an inbound pass to Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. He received a standing ovation after achieving the feat and English later congratulated the center on Twitter.

“I knew that eventually my all-time assist record would be broken. I’m honored to see that it’s 2 time, I mean 3 time MVP of the NBA do it. Congrats big fella.”

English had 3,679 assists in 837 games with Denver, but Jokic raced past him in his 568th career game and already has three all-time records in Nuggets’ history: assists, defensive rebounds, and total rebounds. He finished his evening with 31 points, 13 assists, and 11 rebounds.

Nikola Jokic Gets Real On Becoming The Franchise’s All-Time Assists Leader

Not the one to get too caught up in individual achievements, Jokic was just happy that his efforts landed the Nuggets another win, and was happy that his actions were something that his teammates appreciated.

Speaking in the aftermath of the win, the center said:

“To be honest, maybe that’s the first thing I’m kind of proud of, just because hopefully my teammates love to play with me because I share the ball. So maybe that’s the first time I was kind of proud, probably.”

Jokic, a two-time MVP, four-time All-NBA selection, and a four-time All-Star has already been in the MVP conversation and is touted to win for the third time in a row.

His rich form makes the Nuggets bonafide playoff contenders, and should they stay healthy, the team has the capacity to go the distance. They play the Indiana Pacers next and will hope to consolidate their top position in the West.
