Patrick Beverley Thinks The Clippers Will Be ‘Awful’ In The Regular Season

Patrick Beverley doesn't think the Clippers are going to have a great regular season, picking them as playoff threats.

Former Clippers point guard and current 76ers’ point guard Patrick Beverley shared his unfiltered thoughts about his former franchise trying to make a big four of James Harden, Russell Westbrook, Paul George, and Kawhi Leonard work. Beverley declared he doesn’t see them being good in the regular season but a dangerous threat in the playoffs.

“They’re going to be an awful regular season team, they going to be a dangerous playoff team because the playoffs are all about matchups. When it comes to the regular season, they’ll be God-awful. There’ll be one person who’s always left out. There isn’t much camaraderie. They ain’t spent a lot of time with each other.”

Are we sure the Clippers can even make the postseason this year? It’s too premature to consider them out of the running. But 12 out of the 15 teams in the West are trying to win this season, which means four teams with contending rosters will not be in the playoffs. With the small margin of error in the West, a few losses could decide the difference between being top-six or the 11th seed in the West.

If the Clippers are an awful regular-season team, I don’t see them having any success at all because that would mean they struggle to make the playoffs. They’re currently the 12th seed with a 3-6 record, so this ‘awful’ group needs to start playing around .500 if they even want to be in the play-in tournament, let alone in the top six for a guaranteed playoff spot.

Kyrie Irving Believes In The Clippers

Similar to Beverley, Kyrie Irving was asked about how good this Clippers team can be after the Mavericks handled them in their in-season tournament matchup over the weekend. Irving sympathized with the Clippers and his former teammate Harden and said that they’ll get through the criticism from the public and be a great team.

“Right now they’re going through those ups and downs in the public forum where they are getting criticized for not winning games even tho they’re as great as anyone in the league. They’ll be a great team.”

So far, it doesn’t look like the Clippers are any closer to overcoming anything. Losing to teams like the Mavericks is still understandable given their hot start to the season, but losing to the Grizzlies when they sat rooted to the bottom of the NBA is a massive problem.

James Harden Is Trying To Play His Way Into A Rhythm

James Harden used to be an offensive wizard, but now he averages 13.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.3 assists. He spoke about his early struggles on the Clippers, citing the lack of a proper training camp in the offseason due to his strained relationship with the 76ers as one of the main reasons.

“For me individually, this is only my third game. I didn’t have a training camp, I didn’t have a preseason, so everything is still moving fast speed for me. I need about a 10-game window then kind of see where I am from there.”

Fans may have no choice but to be patient for Harden to get the 10 games he wants to get back into the flow of the game. It has not looked good through the first four, so fans will be praying he can unlock something in him to become either the magnetic scorer that changed the NBA or the playmaker that has led the league in assists for two out of the last three years.
