Chet Holmgren was drafted as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft by the Oklahoma City Thunder, but he missed the entire season due to a foot injury. With the 21-year-old completely healthy, Los Angeles Clippers superstar Paul George picked him to win the 2024 Rookie of the Year ahead of Victor Wembanyama.

“It’s a lot of good talent,” George said on a recent episode of Podcast P. “I mean it’s going to come down to who’s gonna play more. I’m going to go with Chet. I think he is gonna play a ton. They’re gonna be a winning team.

“The way they play, it’s gonna be fun to watch. So I think he’s gonna get a lot of coverage. He plays both ends, he blocks shots, he’s a little bit more polished, you know, further along, I think, than Wemby is.”

He added: “Wemby’s gonna have a little learning curve. I know Chet didn’t play much due to the injury his rookie year, but being in the league, seeing the game up close for a year is gonna give him that much more of a head start. I think Chet’s going to be the Rookie of the Year.”

Chet Holmgren is 7’0″ and weighs 195 pounds. He needs to put on some muscle to protect himself from future injuries in the NBA.

But as George mentioned, the Thunder have a talented roster heading into the 2023-24 season. Holmgren will have an advantage in that regard. As for Wembanyama, the Spurs are currently in a rebuilding phase.

So he may have inflated numbers, but will he actually contribute to wins? Fans will find out in the coming months.

Chet Holmgren Doesn’t Want To Add More Weight

Being a 7’0″ puts Chet Holmgren at risk for a reduced career due to injuries. One way to avoid that would be to gain some muscle and put on extra weight.

But Holmgren has no such plans. Chet recently explained the reason why he doesn’t want to add more weight.

“It’s not just about being big. There’s so much into the game now,” Holmgren said. “You got to be able to move still and do so many different things. It’s not necessarily about gaining weight. It’s really just trying to work on my body — stronger, more athletic.”

Now, that’s one way to approach the game of basketball. Either way, fans will hope to see a completely healthy Holmgren in the 2023-24 season. If he can manage that, NBA veteran Darren Collison also believes that Chet Holmgren will win the 2024 Rookie of the Year.

Victor Wembanyama Could Be Load Managed In His Rookie Season

The French phenom Victor Wembanyama is expected to become one of the greatest players that the NBA has ever seen. But fans may have to wait for a couple of seasons to see Wembanyama’s true potential.

According to a report, the Spurs plan to do load management for Wembanyama during his rookie season. After all, at 7’4″, Wembanyama is prone to injuries.

Moreover, the Spurs have little to no chance of winning a title in the 2023-24 season. So, it won’t make sense to exert extra pressure on Wembanyama.
