Paul George recently shared his thoughts on rising basketball star Cooper Flagg, comparing him to former NBA player Michael Beasley. On his podcast, ‘Podcast P with Paul George,’ George highlighted the similarities between Flagg and Beasley, focusing on their scoring ability, versatility, and the impact they bring to the court.

“He kind of has a little Michael Beasley. At that size, can score, can play make, super talented, just a game-changer. I don’t think people speak enough about how good Michael Beasley was, or is.”

“I still see clips to this day of him just doing crazy s**t online. Motherf***er is still hooping. I think the world of Cooper Flagg, man. I think he’s got the ultimate game.”

George’s comparison is intriguing because Beasley, despite his undeniable talent, never fully reached the superstar potential that was expected when he was drafted second overall in the 2008 NBA Draft. Beasley was known for his smooth scoring ability, his 6’9″ frame allowing him to handle the ball like a guard while being a threat from all areas on the court.

His best season came in 2010-11 with the Minnesota Timberwolves, where he averaged 19.2 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game. However, his career was marred by inconsistency and off-court issues, which prevented him from becoming a perennial All-Star.

Cooper Flagg, on the other hand, is considered one of the top prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft class. Standing at 6’9″ with a skill set that includes ball-handling, playmaking, and scoring from all three levels, Flagg has already drawn attention as a potential franchise-altering player. George’s comparison to Beasley suggests that Flagg, like Beasley, possesses a rare blend of size and skill that makes him a mismatch on the court.

However, George’s comments also imply that Flagg has the potential to surpass Beasley’s career. Unlike Beasley, Flagg has shown a strong work ethic and a commitment to improving his game, which could help him avoid some of the pitfalls that Beasley encountered. Flagg’s defensive prowess further separates him from Beasley, as he is already being touted as a future All-Defensive Team candidate.

While Paul George’s comparison to Michael Beasley highlights the raw talent and scoring ability that Cooper Flagg brings to the table, it also serves as a reminder of the importance of work ethic and consistency in reaching one’s full potential in the NBA. If Flagg can continue to develop his game and maintain his focus, he could very well exceed the expectations set for him and become a significant force in the league.
