Point guard Russell Westbrook did not have the best shooting night against the Phoenix Suns, going 3-19 on the night. However, his impact on the game was still felt in other areas of the game. We saw him play some stellar defense, and his rebounding and playmaking were stellar. He finished with 3 blocks and 2 steals while also getting 11 rebounds and 8 assists.

When speaking to NBA insider Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, Paul George explains that the “intangibles” that Russell Westbrook brings to the table for the Los Angeles Clippers are why he was a “huge pickup for the franchise.”

“This is the reason why Russ was such a huge pickup for us,” George told B/R. “They just see Russ for the shots that he misses. They don’t see him for the rebounding, the defense. Look at the block on KD to start this series off and the block on D-Book to finish the game. They don’t see the intangibles, and they look past everything else that he does. They solely lock into whether he make or miss shots and judge him off of that. People don’t judge him off who he is as a basketball player.”

There is no doubt that players should be judged on everything they bring to the table, rather than only their shooting. However, the Los Angeles Clippers will need Russell Westbrook to do better in terms of scoring in the future as well, as he will have to be the x-factor in them, potentially upsetting the Suns.

This season, Russell Westbrook has averaged 15.8 PPG, 4.9 RPG, and 7.6 APG during his time with the Los Angeles Clippers. He has clearly been a starting-caliber point guard during his time with the team, and hopefully, we see him bounce back on offense during the team’s next game against the Phoenix Suns.

Russell Westbrook Needs To Continue Being A High Impact Player For The Clippers

There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook gave the Clippers another dimension on both ends of the floor. His buy-in and commitment to doing the little things have been key. In fact, Ty Lue told the point guard that his impact is far more than just scoring during his tough shooting night against the Suns, and it is clear that this helped Westbrook continue to lock in and play winning basketball.

Hopefully, we see Russell Westbrook do well in this series against the Phoenix Suns. The conditions are there for him to play at a high level, and we’ll see what happens in the future.
