Paul Pierce Says The Warriors Should Trade No. 2 Pick For Nikola Vucevic

2 Min Read

Paul Pierce has dropped an interesting idea for the Golden State Warriors ahead of the 2020 NBA draft. Nothing is certain now with the No. 1 and No. 2 picks of the draft. The Warriors have the second overall pick this year and they have kept all their options on the table to define what they’re going to do in the next couple of weeks.

According to former NBA player-turned-analyst Paul Pierce, the Warriors should trade that pick.

Moreover, he even dared to name the player they should pursue with that draft pick. During a recent edition of ESPN’s ‘The Jump,’ Pierce said the Dubs need another All-Star to be title contenders once again, urging the Warriors to go after Nikola Vucevic of the Orlando Magic (0:38 mark).

“A name that comes to mind: (Nikola) Vucevic. I think he could go in there and fit right in among their guards. He gives them a down-low presence (and) can knock down shots. If they can do that, then yes (they’ll contend for the NBA championship). But if not, they’ll be right there in the middle of the pack in the Western Conference.”

Vucevic hasn’t been linked with many trade rumors in recent times and he often seems to be overlooked in the NBA. Trading for this player will be great for Golden State. They are looking for a big man right now and were linked with Dwight Howard in recent weeks. Well, Vucevic is an All-Star and he’s been thriving with the Magic for quite some time now. Perhaps this move is what this team needs to return to the top of the league.

Last year, Vucevic averaged 19.6 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game.

Marcus Thompson of The Athletic reported that the Warriors were keen on three prospects, James Wiseman, Anthony Edwards, and LaMelo Ball. However, this idea isn’t bad for them and perhaps we’ll see them making a draft-night trade to land another star.
