Players That Will Leave And Players That Will Stay On The Warriors For The 2023-24 NBA Season

The Warriors will have to make a very important decision about the direction this franchise will take.

The Golden State Warriors recovered from a disappointing season and made it to the second round of the playoffs, after handling the Sacramento Kings in seven games in the first round. The Warriors struggled throughout the year and it was obvious that there were issues that remained unsolved. The first issue was Draymond Green’s punch, which effectively killed team chemistry as Steve Kerr admitted. Meanwhile, Draymond Green himself made a claim that the Golden State Warriors were not championship material by any means and it is hard to argue that when looking at how inconsistent the team was.

With a host of options for the Warriors to realistically build a title contender as soon as possible since Stephen Curry is still a top-10 player in the world, the Golden State franchise needs to focus on which players will return The Western Conference is stacked with many contending teams, including the Denver Nuggets, Phoenix Suns, Los Angeles Clippers, Golden State Warriors, and Memphis Grizzlies, among others, and the Warriors need to build their roster to compete with them. We have already seen how the Lakers will have a master roster reshuffle, and now it is time to look at the Warriors.

The Golden State Warriors are likely headed in a different direction in terms of team makeup with a critical figure leaving the franchise. Bob Meyers, the team’s general manager and president of basketball operations, has stepped down and shared some insight as to why. With Meyers gone, the franchise will likely take a different approach to building a contender and that means there could be a massive change in Golden State’s roster coming this summer.

Without further ado, here are the players that will leave and stay on the Warriors for the 2023-24 NBA season. It is never easy to choose which players deserve to be in Golden State next year, but there are only a handful of players who the franchise will gladly pay at all costs. Most of the Warriors players won’t be on the team next year, but that is the nature of the NBA, and the Warriors jersey is only suitable for players who truly belong.

Players That Will Leave The Warriors This Summer

Lester Quinones

Lester Quinones

Lester Quinones only had four appearances for the Golden State Warriors this year, and he will probably have to find a new home next year. The 6’5” shooting guard only posted 2.5 PPG over those appearances, and his contract finished this season. With a host of options for the Warriors to complete the roster, expect the rookie to not be back.

JaMychal Green

JaMychal Green

JaMychal Green was in the final year of his deal so he will look for a long-term contract that pays him the most money. The big man is 32 years old and is looking for the best solution for his career in monetary terms. The Warriors won’t want to offer long-term deals to everybody, especially those over 30 years old, so it is very likely Green won’t be back and will find a better offer elsewhere.

Andre Iguodala

Andre Iguodala

Andre Iguodala mentioned how the 2022-23 NBA season was his last, but it seems the former Finals MVP is coy about his retirement. Iggy is 39 years old and clearly on his final legs, so he won’t likely be able to play enough minutes to justify the Golden State Warriors bringing him back. Unless the Warriors follow what the Miami Heat did with Udonis Haslem, Iguodala likely won’t be back because the team needs to get younger, more athletic, and add more size instead of paying older players.

Donte DiVincenzo

Donte DiVincenzo

Donte DiVincenzo had a solid season and as such, he will be looking for the largest offer on the table. The guard could come back for almost $5 million next season, but he played enough (9.4 PPG in the regular season) to justify a larger deal being offered elsewhere. DiVincenzo competes on defense, hustles for loose balls, and can also shoot the three. The Warriors would like to keep the guard but it seems very unlikely that their offer will exceed what other teams can offer.

Moses Moody

Moses Moody

Moses Moody is an exciting young player because he is solid defensively, has great size at 6’6”, and is only 20 years old. As such, he is a perfect trade asset for the Warriors to dangle in case another All-Star becomes available. Moody only played 13.0 MPG in the regular season and 13.4 MPG in the playoffs, so it is clear the Warriors want to win right now instead of waiting for players to come of age. In almost any package in a trade for another All-Star, Moody will be included in deals.

Jonathan Kuminga

Jonathan Kuminga

Jonathan Kuminga is another player that is young with a ton of potential. The forward is extremely solid defensively and can also space the floor enough to give him hope of being a knockdown shooter. Kuminga will be the most valuable trade asset Golden State can offer because at 20 years old, there will be teams asking for his price. The Warriors need to win now and the 20-year-old could be shifted elsewhere as a result.

Draymond Green

Draymond Green

Draymond Green had an up-and-down year. Rumors of his departure were widespread and now there are reports that the Golden State Warriors want to bring him back. However, it seems unlikely that the Warriors will find a way to pay Draymond enough to keep the player happy. The player has become an offensive liability, has affected team chemistry with the Jordan Poole incident, and might be more trouble than he is worth. In any trade that could bring in another All-Star player, Draymond could be used as trade bait because there are a host of teams that want to bring in the four-time NBA champion to bolster frontcourt depth.

Jordan Poole

Steve Kerr Explains Why Jordan Poole Only Played 10 Minutes In Game 4

There is no way Jordan Poole will be as bad as he was this season. The guard is still only 23 years old, and being punched in the face by the team leader is going to affect a young player. Poole averaged 20.4 PPG and 4.5 APG in the regular season but only shot 33.6% from deep. In the playoffs, it was quite ugly because he only averaged 10.3 PPG on 25.4% shooting from three and his seeming lack of care on the sidelines wasn’t a good look either. Poole will be a hot commodity despite his struggles because he is still an above-average offensive player so expect the Warriors to trade him for the right price.

Players That Will Stay With The Warriors For The 2023-24 NBA Season

Ryan Rollins

Ryan Rollins

Rollins, a 6’4” point guard, is under contract until the 2024-25 NBA season and that means the Golden State Warriors are holding onto him. Unless a team specifically asks for Rollins and his $2 million salary, it will be rather unnecessary to move the young player. Rollins had 12 appearances in the regular season and zero appearances in the playoffs, so time will tell if he can be the long-term answer for the franchise in terms of bolstering guard depth.

Ty Jerome

Ty Jerome

Jerome had 45 appearances for the Golden State Warriors this season, averaging 6.9 PPG and 3.0 APG. The 6’5” shooting guard can stroke the ball quite well and can handle playmaking duties whenever he is given minutes. For the long stretch that is the regular season, Jerome has shown he can play well enough to earn the qualifying deal the Warriors will offer him. Most likely, Ty Jerome will accept it to stay with the team.

Anthony Lamb

Anthony Lamb

Anthony Lamb has a qualifying offer under $2 million, and for that price, the 6’6” swingman shot the ball well enough (36.7%) from deep to possibly have this offer extended to him. Lamb is a player who will provide minutes as a benchwarmer and backup during the regular season and might even have some appearances in the playoffs. Lamb’s qualifying offer won’t move the needle in terms of the salary cap, so he could return.

Patrick Baldwin Jr.

Patrick Baldwin Jr.

Patrick Baldwin Jr. is under contract for next season and as a 6’9” forward, he has the size and length to find minutes on an NBA court. The player appeared 31 times in the regular season, posting 3.9 PPG, and even had three games in the playoffs. Baldwin Jr. did shoot 38.1% from deep this season, and if he can keep that number, he will continue to find minutes on an NBA court for the Golden State Warriors.

Gary Payton II

Gary Payton II

Gary Payton II was brought back by Golden State this season because his defense, tenacity, and chemistry-building behavior are exactly what a title contender needs. Just like his father, the iconic Gary Payton, Payton II competes very hard on defense and does not back down from any challenge. It is hard to see the Warriors letting Payton II go since he is under contract for next season and has a player option worth over $9 million the year after. As one of the best defenders on the team, Payton II is most likely not going anywhere.

Kevon Looney

Kevon Looney

Kevon Looney had an excellent run with the Warriors in the postseason, posting 6.5 PPG and 13.1 RPG while doing the dirty work including setting screens and protecting the rim. Unless an elite center becomes available and Looney is asked for, the Warriors will not let the big man walk. Looney is under contract until the 2024-25 season and there aren’t many better rebounding centers in the NBA when it truly matters. Based on the chemistry he has built with the team, Looney will start at center for Golden State unless a massive trade becomes available.

Andrew Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins is too good as a starting forward to be let go. He made the All-Star Team last year and there aren’t many better two-way players in the league right now. Wiggins will always be a threat to score 18-20 PPG and play above-average defense and he does it without needing the ball often or affecting the play of Stephen Curry or Klay Thompson. Wiggins has played off the two stars perfectly well and will likely be untouchable next year. The player did have some regular-season distractions and appeared in only 37 games, but he was arguably the second-best player for the Warriors during last year’s postseason run.

Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson’s new deal will see him get less money, which is expected because the sharpshooter doesn’t have the same lift on his shots that he used to. At 33 years old coming off two major injuries, Klay can still shoot the lights out but the days of him being an All-Star might be over. If Thompson wants to get a max deal elsewhere, the Warriors could lose their man, but can anybody imagine one-half of the Splash Brothers playing anywhere else besides Golden State? Klay posted 21.9 PPG in the regular season but 18.5 PPG on 36.8% from three in the playoffs is not quite good enough for the Warriors to win a chip again. Regardless, Klay will likely stay with the Warriors for the entire season in 2024.

Stephen Curry

Stephen Curry On Whether He Would Lose His 3-Point Shot Or Dribbling Abilities: "The Name Of The Game Is To Put The Ball In The Basket."

There aren’t more untouchable players in the world than Stephen Curry. The point guard is still the best shooter in the world as he shot 42.7% from deep in the regular season followed by 36.3% from deep in the playoffs. Curry’s inconsistencies in the postseason were not his fault as the team did struggle against the Los Angeles Lakers, and the player needs help if he wants to get to his 5th championship. At 35 years old, Curry is no spring chicken, but he can still play like the best point guard in the world and that means the Golden State Warriors will hold onto him for dear life next season.
