The Denver Nuggets championship celebration was a happy moment for a football city finally winning the big one in basketball. Unfortunately, a police officer sustained injuries that caused his leg to be amputated while working at the parade.

ESPN shared the details of the incident through quotes from Denver police Chief Ron Thomas.

“Sgt. Justin Dodge was walking along the front passenger side of the truck, which was carrying Nuggets players, when fans made their way onto the street during the June 15 parade route. Dodge was trying to protect the fans when he was struck by the fire truck.”

The Nuggets parade also led to some people losing their lives due to gun violence, marring the celebration that the parade was supposed to be. We at Fadeaway World wish Sgt. Justin Dodge has a speedy recovery after this unfortunate accident.

Denver Nuggets Looking At More Parades In The Future

Championship parades are integral in terms of celebrating the magnitude of an NBA Championship, as it unites an entire city regardless of their fandom. These incidents will leave a bad taste for many fans and the organization. Regardless, the franchise will push to bring more championship parades to the city.

Michael Malone openly said he wants the Nuggets to take a step toward becoming a dynasty. Their offseason hasn’t reflected that, as key rotation players Bruce Brown and Jeff Green walked this summer, whereas out-of-rotation veterans like Reggie Jackson and DeAndre Jordan were brought back. They may come into the season weaker but have an incredible top-four.

Jamal Murray is an All-Star caliber guard, Michael Porter Jr. is a young and developing player who’s already a masterful scorer, and Aaron Gordon is a two-way terror that can do anything asked of him. All of them were helmed by two-time MVP Nikola Jokic, who dominated en route to bringing the Nuggets a championship this season. Who’s to say they can’t do it again?
