Usually, explosive scoring performances are things that we associate with star players in the league. However, there are definitely times when role players end up having insane scoring nights.

A role player that has recently had an impressive scoring night is forward Robert Covington. During the recent Los Angeles Clippers – Milwaukee Bucks game, he ended up exploding for 43 points, making 11 3PT shots in the process.

The current record for most 3PT makes in a game is 14, held by Klay Thompson. There was definitely an opportunity for Robert Covington to potentially match or surpass Klay Thompson’s feat, though that didn’t end up happening. When speaking to the media after the game, Robert Covington revealed that Giannis Antetokounmpo even encouraged him to break the record. Antetokounmpo himself was not playing that night.

Even the other team was like… Giannis told me “Hey man, go for the record. I’m trying to see something”. I was going for it, I think this is the most 3s I shot in a game in my career.

There is no doubt that it would have been amazing to see someone making more than 14 3PT shots in a game. Even though that didn’t happen, it is good to see a respected veteran like Robert Covington set a career-high in scoring and lead his team to victory.

The Los Angeles Clippers will definitely need more nights like this from Robert Covington if they are to make it out of the play-in tournament and into the playoffs. While they now have superstar Paul George back, the team still needs other players to provide offense to support him. Paul George is a player that is capable of carrying the offensive load for a franchise, but any extra offense will help while Kawhi Leonard and Norman Powell are still out with injury.
