To win championships in the NBA, most teams try to stack as many star players as they can during the off-season or even until the trade deadline. But even with all the star power in the world, without good role players, it’s very hard to win anything in the league.

A prime example from this season was the performances of the Los Angeles Lakers and the Brooklyn Nets. Despite having a lot of star power, they failed to live up to the expectations.

Today, we are here to talk about one such role player, who was simply a beast in what he did. Yes, we are referring to 7-time NBA champion Robert Horry. Looking at his career numbers, he didn’t stand out in any way. But his ability to hit big-time shots when it mattered the most helped him have a long, rewardful career in the NBA.

He tasted success early in his career as he was part of the 1994 and 1995 Houston Rockets and won two rings. But after spending four seasons with the Rockets, Horry began a new chapter in his career with the Phoenix Suns.

His stint with the Suns lasted just 32 games as he and the then Phoenix Suns head coach, Danny Ainge, didn’t have the best chemistry. In fact, during one game, Horry was so frustrated with Ainge that he threw a towel at his face. Recently, Horry was asked if he regretted that decision in a Q & A session on Twitter. Horry replied:

“No. Just wished there was a brick in it.”

This tweet by Horry suggests that there was a lot of bad blood between him and Ainge. Moreover, even though more than two decades have passed since the incident, he is still angry with Ainge.

Horry once explained that he simply hated Ainge, and there was a good reason for it. For starters, when he was with the Rockets, the Suns were their rivals. Apart from that, Ainge also hit one of Horry’s close friends, Mario Elie, in the face with a ball.

Knowing these facts certainly makes us understand why Horry threw a towel in the face of Danny Ainge.
