Russell Westbrook is one of the most explosive players in NBA history. The 2017 MVP has been in the league for 13 years now and has been a statistical marvel during the duration of his career. Westbrook’s biggest claim to fame is his triple-doubles, and how many he has in his career.
Westbrook is the all-time leader in the NBA when it comes to triple-doubles. In fact, Westbrook has averaged a triple-double for 4 of the last 5 NBA seasons, including his fantastic 2017 MVP season. Regardless of the criticism people have for Westbrook, that is a legendary accomplishment.
A triple-double is by no means an easy accomplishment. Very few players are able to get multiple triple-doubles in their careers. So the fact that Westbrook has been able to break the record set by legendary point guard Oscar Robertson is truly marvelous.
In fact, Westbrook has been piling up the triple-doubles over the last few years. Bleacher Report pointed out on Instagram that Westbrook has had 176 triple-doubles over the last 7 seasons.
That amounts to 35% of the games that he played where he notched a triple-double. Numbers like this are unlikely to ever be posted by another player ever again.
This year, Russ will be looking to add the one major accolade that has eluded him throughout his career; an NBA championship. Westbrook came close in 2012, when he, Kevin Durant, and James Harden were very young and led the Oklahoma City Thunder to the Finals, only to lose to LeBron James and the Miami Heat.
But now, Westbrook is teammates with LeBron James and hoping to win a championship alongside the King. Westbrook has noted that he needs to adjust his game to that of LeBron’s and Anthony Davis’.
The Lakers will be hoping that Westbrook can continue his triple-double run and that it helps the team get to the top of the NBA mountain once again.
