Point guard Russell Westbrook had an unsuccessful tenure with the Los Angeles Lakers, and he was often blamed for the franchise’s problems. Westbrook was also notably asked to come off the bench, but he has also shown that he is a starting-level player with the Los Angeles Clippers.

Coach Darvin Ham has recently praised Russell Westbrook for being willing to come off the bench with the Los Angeles Lakers. Westbrook had a curt response to those comments, claiming that he’s “past it” and is “looking forward.”

“It was an experience. I’m past it now, in a new place, and looking forward.”

It is clear that Russell Westbrook simply wants to move past his time with the Los Angeles Lakers and focus on what lies ahead. Sometimes the fit with a team is the difference between a player looking good or subpar, and it is clear that the poor fit with the Lakers was an issue for him.

With the Los Angeles Clippers, Russell Westbrook has averaged 15.1 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 7.6 APG. He has definitely looked much better on a team that allows him to be a floor general, and hopefully, his good play continues into the playoffs.

Russell Westbrook Was Used Wrong By The Los Angeles Lakers

When a player is used wrong, then they generally won’t look good on the court. Previously, a coach claimed that the Lakers using Westbrook in the wrong manner led to a lot of their problems.

“The Lakers brought him in and tried to make him a different player, tried to force him to be something he is not. And that led to a lot of the problems they had with each other. But the Lakers left him hung out to dry there,” the coach told Sean Deveney of Heavy Sports. “It wasn’t the coaches, it was more the front office. Frank tried to make it work, Darvin tried to get him to come off the bench. And when there was just not a fit there, you started hearing things come out of the organization, negative things about Russell, how he conducted himself and all.”

There is no doubt that Russell Westbrook moving on was the best option for both him and the Los Angeles Clippers. Both parties are now in a better place and look like they could have more success apart than together.
