Russell Westbrook Refuses To Commit To The Lakers Long-Term: “My Vision, In This League, You Understand This Is A Business.”

3 Min Read

Russell Westbrook going to the Los Angeles Lakers was one of the biggest moves of the 2021 NBA offseason. The 2017 NBA MVP is ready to start a new chapter in his career with the 17-time NBA champions, trying to win that ring he couldn’t get in Oklahoma City, Houston and Washington.

After switching teams in the last three campaigns, Russ isn’t thinking about the future anymore. Brodie is focused on doing the job with the Lakers, winning a championship, and then, see what’s next for him.

Lakers fans would want him to stay with the squad for the long run, but Russ has a different mindset now. The player isn’t committing to the team for the long term after the last three years. He knows this is a business, and everything can change overnight for him or his new franchise.

“My vision, in this league, you understand this is a business. You just do your job, and that’s what I’ll continue to do. As far as the business side of basketball and figuring out where I will be, I wouldn’t imagine that I’ll be here three or four years ago. It’s just something that I can’t fathom,” Westbrook said on a press conference, via Silver Screen and Roll

Still, he made it clear he’s ready to help the Lakers reclaim the Larry O’Brien trophy. As long as he’s part of the team, they will have a fierce competitor on the court.

“But while I’m here, I will compete in the best way I know how, give everything that I have and I’ll let the business side of basketball take care of that.”

Many people have doubts about Westbrook’s fit with LeBron James, but these players vowed to put their egos aside for the team’s sake. If things fall into place for the purple and gold, they will have a lot of things to celebrate next year.

Westbrook landed in Los Angeles to take this squad to the next level. Everybody expects him to do so, which could lead to an extended tenure with the team.
