The Ben Simmons saga with the Philadelphia 76ers was a big one, as the team tried desperately to cut ties with the guard and didn’t have many options to deal Simmons.

It wasn’t until the Brooklyn Nets made an appearance that they let Simmons go, but two years after that moment, details emerged about the possible outcomes of that saga. One includes Simmons joining the Sacramento Kings in exchange for Tyrese Haliburton.

“Harden, at the peak of his powers, is still the devastating scorer that claimed MVP honors under Morey’s previous roster tinkering in Houston and the playmaker Philadelphia brass held out to pair with Joel Embiid during all those months of the 2021-22 season in which Ben Simmons lingered on the trade block.

“It didn’t matter that Sacramento, according to league sources, had put future All-Star Tyrese Haliburton on the proverbial table, or the conversations with Atlanta that would have shed Tobias Harris’ contract along with Simmons’ disinterest in sticking around South Philly.”

Jake Fischer of Yahoo Sports reveals that the Sixers had more options to deal Simmons, but it was the Brooklyn Nets who ultimately landed the controversial player, who is yet to find his rhythm in New York.

As for the Sixers, they’re on the verge of losing James Harden following another disappointing playoffs exit, and to make things worse, Joel Embiid could follow through and ask out of the team, with the New York Knicks paying close attention to this situation.

Tyrese Haliburton Is The Present And Future Of The Indiana Pacers

Meanwhile, Tyrese Haliburton has found his place in the world on a team that really values him and sees him as a future legend of the franchise. The point guard suffered a lot when he learned about his trade, but things are different now, as Haliburton is set to lead the Pacers for many years.

We’ll never know how this situation would’ve played out, but seeing how Harden performed for the Sixers and how well Haliburton has done on the Pacers, perhaps this option was the best one for Philadelphia.
