It looks like you never know which version of the Philadelphia 76ers you’re going to see. One day they beat Championship contenders and the other they’re losing three straight games they should’ve won.
Moreover, it looks like the team is just unable to win without Joel Embiid, which is a major issue because of his constant struggles to stay healthy.
That’s why, when Seth Greenberg was asked about Ben Simmons and the way he underperforms when Embiid isn’t out there, he was quick to let everybody know why the Sixers just won’t win a championship with him as their starting point guard:
“I’m not sure you can trust Ben Simmons (…). They gotta validate that win against the Bucks and they haven’t validated it. They got on the road for three straight games and they still have to go to Houston. When I look at Ben Simmons, I’d like to have him on my fantasy team ’cause put the ball on his hands, they play fast, he puts up numbers, but you know what? those numbers don’t correspond to winning all the time,” Greenberg said in ESPN’s Get Up.
Greenberg went on to criticize Simmons for his lack of a jump shot and the fact that he isn’t even trying to knock down midrange or three-pointers right now.
“I don’t want to see more videos of Ben Simmons shooting threes in the summer, ’cause until he can make a three on an actual game, forget about the videos. He won’t take them. If you’re Ben Simmons, who’s going to be a great player, you have to be able to step up, pull up from 15 feet and knock down that jumper. You’ve got to be able to catch the ball and stepping to it, and making open threes. His game is incomplete. Yes, he can pass the ball, he can push the ball in transition, he can do all those things, but can he be a guy you can win a Championship with? until he can shoot it, he can not”, Greenberg concluded.
There’s no doubt that Ben Simmons is one of the most talented players in the world, but as a 1st overall pick entering his third season, his averages of 14.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game are somewhat underwhelming.
