Shaquille O’Neal Mocks Dennis Schroder For Turning Down $84 Million Offer From Lakers

2 Min Read

Dennis Schroder became one of the biggest stories of the 2021 NBA free agency, and not precisely for the best reasons. The German player went from having a big contract extension offer to settling for a one-year deal.

A couple of months ago, Dennis turned down an $84 million offer from the Los Angeles Lakers. He believed he was deserving of at least $100 million and decided to wait and see what the free agency could offer him. The Lakers have Russell Westbrook on the roster now, while Schroder is on his way to Boston to play for the Celtics.

This situation sparked many reactions around the league, with fans mocking Schroder for his poor decision. Los Angeles Lakers legend Shaquille O’Neal also joined the party, taking to Instagram to make fun of the German point guard.

“Things that make you go hmmmmmm #whatthehellareyouthinking” Shaq wrote on a post announcing Dennis signing with the Boston Celtics on one-year, $5.9 million.

He could have done a lot more if he agreed to that initial offer from the Lakers. Now Dennis is reportedly ‘in a state of shock‘ after turning down that contract, but there’s nothing he can do to change that.

While the Lakers look like a championship team, Schroder is joining a young Celtics team that can compete in the East but won’t be closer to the Lakers’ level.

Life comes at you fast, and this is another proof of that. Dennis missed a big chance with the Lakers, decided not to showcase his talents in the Summer Olympics, and now had to settle with a one-year deal, making only $5.9 million.
