Shaquille O’Neal On Erik Spoelstra: ”Started As The Miami Heat Video Coordinator To Making His Fifth NBA Finals As The Head Coach”

We can’t stretch enough how much of a good job coach Erik Spoelstra has done in charge of the Miami Heat. He’s taken them to 5th NBA Finals in 11 years, posting 8 seasons over .500 and with completely different rosters.

Spoelstra had to endure LeBron James’ departure, Dwyane Wade leaving, and Chris Bosh’s career-ending injury. He was under fire during the Heatles era and the King reportedly wanted him out, but Pat Riley stood by his side and always trusted him.

Coach Spo is a true story of inspiration. He’s climbed his way up in the Miami Heat organization, all the way from video coordinator to the scouting department to an assistant coach to 5 NBA Finals and – at least – a couple of NBA Championships.

That’s why even former Miami Heat player Shaquille O’Neal took it to his Instagram account to give him a shoutout for the outstanding job he’s doing.

Erik Spoelstra has proven to be one of the best coaches in NBA history. His players are willing to go to war for him and are 100% sold on his grittiness and tough-defensive scheme. It’s not a coincidence that he’s managed to stay contending regardless of the pieces he has at his disposal.

Pat Riley and Erik Spoelstra have done an incredible job at building a winning culture at South Beach and are a living testament to the fact that you don’t need to tank to get great players, nor stop competing to rebuild.

Throughout his 11-year career as the team’s head coach, he’s amassed a 567-392 (.591) record and will likely go down as one of the greatest basketball masterminds of all time once it’s all said and done. Respect.
