Shaquille O’Neal has come out and heavily endorsed his former teammate Robert Horry to be inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. He reacted to a post he saw on social media.

“The answer is HMF YES, and yes I’m yelling.”

Robert Horry wasn’t a star in the NBA, but there haven’t been better glue guys than him in league history. Horry won seven titles as a key member of three different teams.

He won his first two titles alongside Hakeem Olajuwon on the Houston Rockets in 1994 and 1995. After that, Horry picked up three in the Lakers three-peat alongside Shaq and Kobe Bryant. He wasn’t done winning titles; he joined the San Antonio Spurs and emerged victorious in 2005 and 2007 before retiring as a seven-time champion.

His career average of 7.0 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists are unimpressive, but we never hear of players fluking their way to seven titles.

Each team needed him to be the ‘Big Shot Bob’ everyone knows him as today. It’s hard to say if he deserves to be a Hall of Famer based on his individual talent, but the seven titles do sing for him in this case.

Robert Horry Once Said He Would Take Seven Titles Over One Hall Of Fame Induction

The debate over Horry’s inclusion in the Hall of Fame isn’t a new debate, with fans and players discussing it ever since he became eligible in 2013. But with 10 years already in the rearview, it’s unlikely Horry will get considered for induction anytime soon.

He openly said that he doesn’t care about the Hall of Fame, even though he thinks he should be in it.

Man, I have seven titles because, at the end of the day, the Hall of Fame doesn’t give you anything for it. There are even people in the Hall of Fame that do not know who they are and I don’t care about the Hall of Fame even if I feel like I should be in it. But I don’t care about it. At the end of the day, it’s a team sport. I’ve done something that a lot of players would never do, I’ve done things that only a few players have done.”

Seven titles is a feat that most NBA fans will always remember Horry for. He’s also not lying about people being able to name who’s in the Hall of Fame. But the induction serves as recognition for a hard-fought career and Horry must be a little miffed he won’t get a Hall of Fame jacket.

Robert Horry Called Hakeem Olajuwon The Greatest Big Man He Ever Played With

With O’Neal advocating for Horry’s induction, it’s important to remember that Horry once picked Hakeem Olajuwon over both Shaq and Tim Duncan.

‘(If you were to) name the top five big men, I played with three of them. Dream is number one by far… if you look at what he put together. Defensive Player of the Year and MVP in one season, all-time shot blocker, those things that you look at his history and what he’s done for the game.”

Horry credited Hakeem’s impact in college to his argument as well, even being shocked that Olajuwon hadn’t played basketball until his late teenage years. Regardless, he left an impact on the game that is undisputed. There’s a reason NBA stars are still willing to pay (allegedly) $50,000 to continue training with Hakeem in the summers.
