During a recent episode of “The Big Podcast with Shaq,” NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal stirred up controversy by selecting his dream starting five, which notably included Allen Iverson, Tracy McGrady, Glenn Robinson, and Dennis Rodman. While Iverson and McGrady were conventional choices, O’Neal’s decision to include Rodman raised eyebrows, especially considering the tumultuous relationship between the two.

“Him at the one. I’m going to go T-Mac at the two. I’m going to give him a chance… At the three big dog Glenn Robinson. And at the four I’m going to go with, we need somebody crazy. I hate to say this name. Punk a** Dennis Rodman.”

O’Neal selected Iverson and McGrady as his starting guards, while he chose Robinson at the small forward spot. Then, for the power forward choice, he stated that they needed someone crazy and he reluctantly chose Rodman.

O’Neal’s unconventional choice led to a candid discussion about Rodman’s quirks and antics both on and off the court. Recalling his time playing alongside Rodman during the 1998-99 season with the Los Angeles Lakers, O’Neal shared amusing anecdotes about the enigmatic forward’s unorthodox behavior.

“He’ll come in with 40 minutes on the clock eating chicken and rice, not paying attention, doing in the middle of the meeting, take a cold shower, not paying attention. We go out first, then he’ll come out, give you 25 rebounds, stanking like a motherf****r, put his clothes on and go to the club.”

In particular, O’Neal recounted how Rodman would attend post-game club outings without bothering to shower, yet still managed to attract the attention of beautiful women. Describing Rodman’s distinctive odor as resembling “garbage truck water,” O’Neal expressed a mix of amusement and incredulity at his former teammate’s ability to effortlessly charm women despite his unorthodox hygiene habits.

“And had the baddest women I’ve ever seen in my life surrounded him hugging…Like he smelled like garbage truck water and he got models on him at the club. I was a party guy. I thought some party had something. But I ain’t never seen what I’ve seen with Dennis Rodman. I was actually mad.”

“I was mad not cause he had the girl, I’m like this motherf***er ain’t wash his a**.” (17:20)

O’Neal’s lighthearted yet revealing anecdotes shed light on the complexities of Rodman’s persona, highlighting his uncanny ability to captivate audiences both on and off the court. Despite his unconventional methods, Rodman’s undeniable talent as a rebounder and defender earned him respect among his peers, including O’Neal.

However, O’Neal’s humorous remarks also underscored the challenges of playing alongside a teammate with such eccentric tendencies. While Rodman’s contributions on the court were undeniable, his off-court behavior occasionally posed logistical and interpersonal challenges for his teammates and coaches.

In retrospect, O’Neal’s selection of Rodman for his dream starting five offers insight into the nuanced dynamics of NBA locker rooms, where talent and chemistry often collide in unpredictable ways. This team could have won multiple championships if they could figure out how to maintain team chemistry and harmony, which would be their biggest challenge.

While Rodman’s inclusion may have raised eyebrows, it also serves as a reminder of the unique personalities that have shaped the NBA’s rich history.

Shaquille O’Neal And Dennis Rodman Constantly Throw Shade At Each Other

The feud between Shaquille O’Neal and Dennis Rodman has been simmering for years, marked by jabs, shade, and outright criticisms exchanged between the two basketball legends.

It all began when Rodman joined the Los Angeles Lakers in 1999, a move that was expected to bolster the team’s roster with his defensive prowess. However, the partnership between Rodman and O’Neal proved to be tumultuous, with Rodman later claiming that both Kobe Bryant and Shaq harbored resentment towards him due to the attention he garnered. As a result, Rodman only played 23 games for the Lakers before he was let go.

In recent years, the tension between the two has resurfaced, with Rodman taking shots at O’Neal during a wrestling promotion event in Chicago. The former NBA star boldly asserted his dominance over O’Neal, claiming to have defeated him during their playing days.

O’Neal, known for his quick wit and sharp tongue, has not shied away from firing back at Rodman. He has openly criticized Rodman for his behavior both on and off the court, labeling him as his worst teammate and questioning the worthiness of the massive contract he received from the Lakers.

Furthermore, O’Neal has revealed anecdotes about his confrontations with Rodman during their playing days, recounting instances where he threatened to physically retaliate against Rodman for his rough play on the court.

The animosity between the two basketball icons extends beyond their playing careers, with Rodman continuing to take verbal jabs at O’Neal’s legacy and decisions, such as questioning the validity of O’Neal’s lucrative contract with the Lakers.

Despite their differences, both O’Neal and Rodman remain respected figures in the basketball community, with their contributions to the sport undeniable. However, their ongoing feud serves as a reminder of the complexities and rivalries that exist within the world of professional basketball.
