Skip Bayless: “LeBron James Can’t Catch Michael Jordan, So Now He’s Chasing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar.”

LeBron James is having another MVP year with the Lakers. Averaging 25.7 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.9 assists per game, he’s having one of the best statistical campaigns of his career.

But, according to Skip Bayless, Bron’s performance this year (and his apparent unwillingness to slow down) is the result of his bid to catch Kareem Abdul-Jabbar on the NBA’s All-Time scoring list.

Skip has been a long-time critic of James, so it’s no surprise to hear his spin on why the “King” has been so heavy on his minutes and shot attempts. Against the Timberwolves on Tuesday, Bron dropped 30 points, 13 rebounds, and 7 assists in a team-high 37 minutes of action.

Needless to say, LeBron has been going pretty hard this season and not everyone is convinced it isn’t motivated by some kind of agenda.

For Skip, LeBron’s push this season is evidence of his effort to rack up points and beat Kareem in scoring. Right now, LeBron is third, about 3,402 points away from catching Kareem for the top spot — which would obviously do great things for his legacy.

Still, whatever LeBron’s motives, it doesn’t change what he’s been able to do this season. It’s impressive, and it might just result in Bron hoisting that MVP trophy by the season’s end.
