The Golden State Warriors recorded their fifth straight win on Friday night when they beat the Oklahoma City Thunder 141-139. While Stephen Curry was the star of the show with 30 points, his new teammate Chris Paul had 13 assists and no turnovers on the night, and Curry admits he is getting jealous of that assist-to-turnover ratio.

“It’s impressive, to say the least,” Curry said. “His ability to see the court… He just has a knack for it, he’s had his whole career. Watch out when he starts making shots that’s gonna be the fun part when he puts it all together. So, it’s very very impressive. I am super jealous of the assist-to-turnover ratio. I do not have that in my bag.”

After his play on Friday night, Paul’s assist-to-turnover ratio stands at 9:1, which is incredible. He ranks third in the league for it and always tends to find himself at or near the top for it every season. The 38-year-old just has that knack for finding his teammates, as Curry said.

As for the two-time MVP himself, he certainly wasn’t lying when he said he does not have it in his bag. Curry has an assist-to-turnover ratio of just 1.3:1, as he does tend to take a lot more risks than Paul does. It was really one of the reasons why the Warriors acquired him and things are going well so far.

The One Concern Regarding Chris Paul So Far

Paul has, of course, been coming off the bench for the Warriors since Draymond Green returned and, for the most part, he has done well. The 12-time All-Star is averaging 8.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 9.0 assists, and 1.6 steals per game.

He has run the offense very well and played his part in the team currently having a 5-1 record. The one concern, however, has been his shooting. Paul is shooting 33.9% from the field, which is bad enough itself, but it gets even worse when you look at his three-point shooting.

Paul is just 1-21 from beyond the arc in this campaign, which amounts to a woeful 4.8%. While you’d obviously expect improvement as the season goes by, the question is how much better will he get. He is always going to provide value with his playmaking, but Paul has got to be able to hit some shots, or else the Warriors won’t be comfortable with having him on the court in the big moments.

Chris Paul’s Bold Promise Regarding The In-Season Tournament

This game against the Thunder was the first in the In-Season Tournament for Paul and the Warriors, and they came away with the win. While some questioned whether the players would actually care about the tournament, it turns out the veteran point guard sure does. Paul and Green told Warriors GM Mike Dunleavy Jr. that they were going to win the In-Season Tournament.

“I said to [Warriors general manager] Mike Dunleavy about a month ago, I said, ‘Hey Mike, what do you think about this in-season tournament?,” explained Warriors president Brandon Schneider as he joined the NBC Sports Bay Area broadcast. “He said, ‘Well, Draymond Green and Chris Paul told me we’re going to win it.’ I said, ‘OK, that’s all I needed to know.’ “

Paul and Green are incredibly competitive individuals, so it wasn’t surprising that they have their eyes set on winning it. They’re off to a good start and will be big favorites for their next tournament game as well, which will be against the Minnesota Timberwolves on November 14.
