Stephen Curry’s journey in the NBA has been amazing, but when he was drafted into the NBA by the Golden State Warriors, not many expected Curry to reach the level that he has. There were several reasons behind it, and his struggle with injuries was certainly one of the biggest concerns for the Warriors.

In his first two seasons, Stephen Curry started to impress everyone with his amazing shooting ability. But as we mentioned earlier, Curry dealt with serious ankle injuries and, as a result, missed several games. Curry’s struggles with ankle injuries started in his sophomore season, but he still managed to play 74 games that season.

Steph struggled most with his ankle injuries in the 2011-12 NBA season, where the Golden State Warriors star played just 26 games. By this point, many had started to lose trust in him, and he was even almost traded to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Stephen Curry Opens Up About His Darkest Time In The NBA

Dealing with constant injuries can have a huge impact on any NBA player. We have seen the careers of many talented players being derailed due to the exact same reason, and for the first few seasons of his career, Curry seemed destined to become another player being added to that list.

During a conversation with Warriors GM Bob Myers, Steph opened up about dealing with those ankle injuries and how he ultimately overcame that.

(Starts at 2:45)

“The injuries keep you off the court so consistently, so frequently that you start to doubt everything that you poured into your craft and the cloud hanging over, ‘Will I be healthy enough just to get my two feet on the floor and give myself an opportunity to be the player that I wanna be?’ That was over a two-year stretch, off and on, where a lot of dark days, a lot of patience, a lot of support from family, people that you trust who can speak positivity in life into you, confidence into you. I felt like Forrest Gump without the big braces, so it was a weird time.”

Despite dealing with those injuries during the early years of his career, Steph continued to develop into a great player. The trust that the Golden State Warriors showed in him has ultimately paid off, as Curry has helped the team win four NBA Championships during his career.
