Before the 2021-22 NBA season began, the Los Angeles Lakers were touted as one of the best teams in the league. After getting eliminated from the playoffs in the first round the previous year, most expected the team to make a stunning comeback.
Initially, the Lakers looked like they were doing great. They traded for Russell Westbrook to team him up with the already sensational duo of LeBron James and Anthony Davis. On top of that, the team decided to add several experienced veterans as supporting pieces to the Big 3.
On paper, it sounded like a good idea to surround your three superstars with extremely talented and experienced role players. But the Lakers soon realized their mistake as the experiment started to fail miserably for them.
But another Los Angeles team tried a similar experiment. We are talking about the Los Angeles Rams, who also added a lot of veteran players to their roster. Unlike the Lakers, the Rams ended up winning the Super Bowl 2022.
Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry, who led his team to the 2022 NBA Championship, made sure to use this fact to troll the Lakers during the 2022 ESPYS.

“Super Bowl champions! I know that sounds great. It was so inspiring watching y’all play, watching y’all win a Super Bowl, watching y’all celebrate. And it’s just inspiring to see that strategy of buying old superstars pay off for a local team around here. Hey, Mutombo! Where you at? I hear you’re looking for a 10-day? Yes? Or no, no, no no! I’ll let Rob Pelinka know.”
Curry subtly roasted the Lakers with this joke. He also roasted LeBron James for hosting the ESPYS back in 2007 after losing in the NBA Finals.
Watching Steph hosting the event wasn’t exactly a great experience for anyone but the Warriors fans. Because it felt like Curry made up his find to take shots at every rival and doubter of his.
