Steve Kerr Calls Out U.S. Congress In Passionate, Emotional Message About Mass Shooting Crisis

On Tuesday, Robb Elementary School in Texas became the site of another mass shooting, with the gunman killing 21 people (including 18 children) and wounding three in a vicious attack.

It’s another senseless, life-costing incident in America and the whole country finds itself in mourning.

Ahead of Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals, Warriors coach Steve Kerr took some time to talk about the tragedy and pleaded with lawmakers to take action before it happens again:

“When are we gonna do something? I’m so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastating families that are out there and I’m so tired of the excuses,” Kerr said. “I’m tired of the moments of silence. Enough! There’s 50 Senators right now who refuse to vote on HRA, which is a background check rule that the house passed a couple years ago. It’s been sitting there for two years and there’s a reason they won’t vote on it: to hold onto power. So I ask you, Mitch McConnell, I ask all of you Senators who refuse to do anything about the violence and school shootings and supermarket shootings, I ask you: are you going to put your own desire for power ahead of the lives of our children and our elderly and our church-goers? Because that’s what it looks like. It’s what we do every week. I’m fed up, I’ve had enough. We’re gonna play the game tonight but I want every person here, every person listening to this to think about your own child or grandchild, or mother or father or sister/brother. How would you feel if this happened to you today?

Kerr isn’t a guy who floods the NBA media room with politics or personal beliefs. But he does speak up on issues he holds close, including the safety of American children and families.

In the aftermath of another costly shooting, one has to wonder when those in charge will respond. While there are many issues plaguing the globe, it really shouldn’t be hard to ask that schools become safer in this country.

Steve Kerr, even ahead of an important playoff game, wants to let the world know where he stands and be an example for Americans around the country.
