Andrew Wiggins has shown himself as a great two-way player during his time with the Golden State Warriors. His ability to defend the best players on an opposing team has clearly been useful for the team, as has been his ability to slash to the rim and also space the floor. Over the course of the playoffs, Andrew Wiggins has averaged 15.8 PPG, 7.0 RPG, and 0.9 BPG, while shooting 35.3% from beyond the arc.

When speaking in a recent interview, Warriors coach Steve Kerr has recently spoken about Andrew Wiggins’ value to the team, lauding his defense, and adding that the Warriors wouldn’t be in the position they are currently in without Andrew Wiggins. (2:00):

A lot of talent and a lot of ability and needed to figure out his role with this team. We’re so lucky to have Steph, Klay, Draymond, Andre, who are basketball players. They understand the game, they understand a guy like Wiggs has so much value… We would not be here without Wiggs.  His defense throuhgout the playoffs has been amazing, the threat that he provides offensively gives us another dynamic.

There is no doubt that having an athletic wing player that is a dynamic finisher at the rim can open up a lot of possibilities offensively. While he is scoring less than he was in the regular season, Andrew Wiggins has been efficient and effective in his current role.

The Golden State Warriors enter the NBA Finals as the favorite to win it against a young Boston Celtics team. Andrew Wiggins’ defense will be crucial for the Warriors in their efforts to slow down star wing duo Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, as he will likely be spending a lot of time guarding them. He has already stated that he’s up to taking on that challenge. Perhaps this is the year we’ll watch the Golden State Warriors win their fourth championship during the Stephen Curry era, and solidify their status as a historic team.
