As Nets guard Kyrie Irving continues to get shunned from his home city, Texas Senator Ted Cruz made his own appeal to the 7x All-Star.
Speaking to the media, Cruz called out the NBA and the city of New York in a recent speech and suggested that Uncle Drew should make the switch to Houston if he wants to play full-time basketball.
“Here’s how idiotic it is. Kyrie Irving can go to a game, could sit in the stands not being vaccinated — which he did. That was perfectly okay. But if he actually plays, that’s not permissible. Because apparently, ina ddition to Diet Coke and peanuts, which we’re told are being magical cures for COVID, touching a basketball makes you a lethal threat. They fined Kyrie Irving because he dared to go to the locker room. Mind you, he’s sitting in the damn stands watching the game. He can go talk to the players at the game. But when he went to the locke room, $50,000. This is asinine dishonets theatre. Let Kyrie Irving play.”
“By the way, if Brooklyn won’t let Kyrie play, I’m going to make a pitch to you directly. Kyrie, come to Houston, play for the Rockets. We’ll let you play. He’s a hell of a player. Uncle Drew’s being benched by asinine Democratic theater. This is stupid.”

Kyrie Irving has more basketball talent than most of his peers. As an elite scorer, expert playmaker, and All-Time great ball-handler, his availability will likely have a profound impact on the 2022 playoffs.
With him, the Nets have a proven scorer and winner on the court to put alongside Kevin Durant. Without him, they will be forced to compete at depleted strength.
While Irving is unlikely to don a Rockets jersey anytime soon, it is a shame that his play is being restricted at the height of his career.
Let’s hope something changes before it’s too late.
