The 2022-23 campaign was the Los Angeles Lakers’ 75th season in the NBA and they have had a whole lot of success in that time.

With 17 championships and 32 Finals appearances, the Lakers are the most storied franchise in the history of the league and so many of the game’s greats have played for them. They honored some of those icons with a mural in Koreatown, Los Angeles.

It features Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Kobe Bryant in both his No. 8 and 24 jerseys, Shaquille O’Neal, Pau Gasol, Anthony Davis, and LeBron James. When it comes to the last 40-odd years, those are the biggest names to have represented the franchise, with James Worthy perhaps being unlucky to miss out.

This mural was created by popular muralist Jonas Never in collaboration with the Lakers and Bibigo.

Never had also created a mural when LeBron joined the Lakers back in 2018, although it kept getting vandalized so he had to take it down. Hopefully, nothing of that sort happens to this one.

The 75th Season Was A Rollercoaster Ride For The Lakers

The Lakers released throwback jerseys in honor of their 75th season, with both LeBron and Davis loving it. What they certainly didn’t love was how the campaign started, as they were 2-10 after 12 games. There were moments when it seemed like they were back on track, only for the team to fall flat on their face afterward.

All that changed after they made some big moves before the trade deadline and with their revamped roster, the Lakers were a team reborn. They had the best record in the West after the trade deadline and made it all the way to the Western Conference Finals. Getting swept there by the Denver Nuggets would have stung, but it was still a turnaround for the ages. They’d be hoping to go a couple of steps further in the 2023-24 campaign.

His passion for the sport was ignited after witnessing the high-octane offense of the Steve Nash-led Phoenix Suns. Among the Suns, Shawn Marion stood out to Gautam as an all-time underrated NBA player. Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely. He admired Marion’s finishing ability at the rim and his shooting, despite an unconventional jump shot, believing that Marion’s skill set would have been even more appreciated in today’s NBA.This transformative experience not only deepened his love for basketball but also shaped his approach to sports writing, enabling him to connect with readers through vivid storytelling and insightful analysis.
