The Los Angeles Lakers have a history of talented players donning the iconic Purple and Gold jersey. When the Lakers drafted Lonzo Ball using the second overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, they expected him to become the next superstar of the team.
Unfortunately, the Lakers and Ball parted ways after just two seasons. Ball is currently a member of the Chicago Bulls but is struggling to play due to injury. CBS Sports’ Doug Gottlieb recently claimed that the Lakers believe Ball’s initial injury was caused by wearing Big Baller Brand’s shoes—a company owned by his father, LaVar Ball.
“Lakers believe his initial injury, was caused by his shoes. BBB were complete trash, no R&D like Nikes, just thrown together. Sad, because Zo can really play.”

Lonzo Ball has been struggling with a knee injury since last season. He has already had two surgeries and is already preparing for a third surgery that’ll reportedly keep him sidelined for the entire 2023-24 NBA season.
Ball was just starting to tap into his true potential, but fans may never see him reach that now. If LaVar Ball’s BBB shoes are the reason behind it, fans will never forgive him.
The Chicago Bulls Privately Believe Lonzo Ball Will Never Play Again
The Chicago Bulls have shown nothing but trust in Lonzo Ball since his gruesome knee injury. It is evident from the fact that the Bulls’ front office is ready to wait for Ball.
While the front office is trying to be optimistic about Ball’s return, it was recently reported that they ‘privately’ believe the 25-year-old’s career is over.
“The other thing I heard is even though publicly there has been an expression of guarded optimism regarding a future for Lonzo Ball. And there’s a reason why for you’re pursuant to all kinds of union issues, why they haven’t asked for the salary exemption yet because they don’t want to send the message publicly that they’re done with him. They don’t think it’s likely that he ever plays again.”
If Lonzo Ball’s third surgery goes well, he may return to playing basketball by the end of the 2023-24 NBA season or by the start of the 2024-25 NBA season. The Bulls won’t mind either option, as they want to keep him part of the team’s core, at least for now.
