The Time Michael Jordan Turned Down $100 Million

2 Min Read

Michael Jordan may be the most recognizable star in sports, but he has worked hard to kept public appearances to a minimum since his retirement in 2003.

In fact, according to his agent David Falk, the guy would rather lose $100 million than make a two-hour appearance.

Here’s the story, per via CBS Sports:

“I brought him a deal three years ago for $100 million. All he had to do was, other than giving his name and likeness, make a one two-hour appearance to announce the deal and he turned it down. God bless him. He’s been so successful, it gives him an opportunity to do whatever the hell he wants or not to do things he doesn’t want. I really admire that. He’s very, very selective in the things he wants to be involved in.”

Michael was clearly very selective in who he chose to deal with — even if it cost him money. He also refused a $7 million deal to take part in a one-day golf tournament in Asia.

Needless to say, that’s what makes this “Last Dance” documentary so special. This may be one of the best, and only, opportunities we get to see this side of Michael. To get a look behind-the-scenes is something special and not something that would normally be allowed.

Then again, with a net worth of $2.1 billion, you can afford to play by your own rules.
