Three-point shooting has become a crucial part of the game right now. Every single player on the court, regardless of his position, now has the green light to shoot in most systems, which is hurting the value of the old-school, heavy-footed big man.
Moreover, young players entering the league need to develop a consistent stroke from beyond the arc if they want to make it. Regardless of their athleticism or their aggressiveness driving through the paint, they can’t be onedimensional anymore.
That’s why most coaches need to bench some of their best players down the stretch, as they can’t seem to knock down a three-pointer to save their lives. Today, we’ll talk about them by letting you know about the top 10 worst three-point shooters of the season.
10. RJ Barrett – 31.1% 3FG
There were two questions about RJ Barrett’s ability to become a star in the league when he entered the NBA last season: Can he improve his tunnel vision and can he become a consistent three-point shooter. Well, he’s made great strides as a scorer and a playmaker with the first one but the second continues to be an issue. Still, there’s plenty of room for improvement and he’s quite young.
9. Anthony Edwards – 31.6% 3FG
There were a lot of impressive things about Anthony Edwards that made him worthy of being the first-overall pick but the three-point shooting wasn’t one of them. Thus far, the rookie out of Georgia has struggled to connect from deep – and with his shot overall. He’s an athletic freak and still finds ways to put the ball through the hoop but needs to be a more consistent shooter and to improve his shot selection as well.
8. Blake Griffin – 31.5% 3FG
Blake Griffin put a lot of work into his game to become a consistent scorer from midrange and a much better playmaker than the average power forward. In fact, there was a time where he was a somewhat reliable shooter from beyond the arc. Sadly, it seems like those days are gone, as the former 1st-overall pick can’t buy a bucket from downtown this season.
7. Dejounte Murray – 31.1% 3FG
Dejounte Murray is already one of the best defensive guards in the league. He knows how to make the most of his length and his athleticism to alter shots and not allow many passing lanes, and he’s improved his playmaking a lot. On the downside, he continues to be a subpar shooter – to say the least – and that’s not exactly helping the San Antonio Spurs with their spacing problems.
6. Josh Richardson – 30.1% 3FG
The Dallas Mavericks traded for Josh Richardson because of his defense and versatility, not because of his three-point shooting skills. If anything, he’s hurting their spacing and there’s a reason why opposing defenses leave him wide open in the perimeter. He should know better than to pull up from three every time he has an opportunity, as he’s just not getting it done.
5. Pascal Siakam – 29.5% 3FG
Just when it seemed like he was ready to break out as one of the biggest stars of the league, Pascal Siakam regressed mightily. He was never automatic from beyond the arc, but he just can’t buy a bucket to save his life now. His release is off and he’s bricking three-pointer after three-pointer, so maybe he should just get back to basics and continue dominating in the post.
4. Darius Bazley – 29.4% 3FG
The Oklahoma City Thunder have something interesting in their hands in Darius Bazley. In pure Sam Presti fashion, he’s a high-flying athlete that can jump through the roof, and his long extremities allow him to be a nightmare when rivals start switching. He’s shown a nice scoring touch above the rim, however, his shot from deep just isn’t falling, and his form just seems off.
3. Josh Jackson – 29.4% 3FG
Josh Jackson is finally reviving his career with the Detroit Pistons, showing that defensive expertise that got him to the league in the first place. He’s also becoming a more aggressive driver and scorer, which were two things he could never do with the Phoenix Suns. Then again, he continues to struggle mightily when it comes to scoring from beyond the arc.
2. Giannis Antetokounmpo – 28.6% 3FG
Giannis Antetokounmpo can score in countless ways but three-point shooting isn’t one of them. He can drive and only needs a couple of dribbles to get to the rim thanks to his length, athleticism, and strength; but his shooting form just isn’t good. Opposing defenses continue to disrespect Giannis’ shot and for very good reasons, as he can be wide open and still miss.
1. Cam Reddish – 26.2% 3FG
Cam Reddish is having a historic season but for the wrong reasons. He’s on pace to become the worst three-point shooter in the world and, even though there has been some improvement from his rookie year, he’s just quite an inefficient scorer. Reddish has the physical traits to become a dominant two-way player but he needs to put a lot of work on his shot, as he’s bricking wide-open looks from all over the court.
