After 25 games with the Raptors last season, veteran big man Jakob Poeltl entered unrestricted free agency as one of the most coveted bigs on the market. Averaging 13 points, 9.1 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game, the 27-year-old center made a name for himself as a versatile player with talent on both ends of the floor.
This summer, multiple teams were reported to have an interest in him but the Raptors have officially re-signed him to a 4-year, $80 million deal. Adrian Wojnarowski released the news earlier today.
“ESPN Sources: Free agent C Jakob Poeltl has agreed on a four-year, $80 million contract to stay with the Toronto Raptors. Poeltl is represented by Michael Tellem and Sam Goldfeder. Deal includes a player option.”
The Raptors barely missed out on the playoffs this year, losing in the play-in tournament after posting a 41-41 record. And while they seem to be content running it back, don’t be surprised if they pull off a big move this summer.
For right now, they at least prevented themselves from getting worse and that’s as good a place to start as any.
