Trae Young On Steve Nash: “If Anybody Asks Me Who The Best Player Of All Time Is, I Tell Them Steve Nash. I Definitely Try To Model My Game As Much As I Can To Steve.”

LeBron James, Michael Jordaan, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar are usually the handful of names that are included in the GOAT debate. But for Hawks star Trae Young, it is Steve Nash who is his GOAT, as he declared to Sam Amick back in 2019.

It would be one thing for Young to declare Steve Nash the best point guard of all time. But ask him about the Greatest Player of All Time debate – MJ, LeBron, Wilt, Magic, Kareem? – and it’s quite another to hear him say that his answer doesn’t change.

“If anybody asks me who the best player of all time is, I tell them Steve Nash,” Young said. “That’s my favorite player, and it’s always been my favorite player.

“I definitely try to model my game as much as I can to Steve.”

Not many would agree with that take, but Nash was certainly no scrub. In his 18 seasons in the NBA, Nash was an 8x All-Star, 7x All-NBA player, and 2x MVP. He’s also third on the All-Time assists list.

For Young, his admiration seems to stem from Nash’s ability to create for others and shoot from the perimeter. So far, Trae has been doing pretty good himself, being named an All-Star in 2020.

Whether or not he’ll add more to his resume, however, remains to be seen.
